Sony HTSS360 5.1 channel Home Theater System (Black) Review

Sony HTSS360 5.1 channel Home Theater System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own a new 40" Sony Bravia LCD that I hooked this system up to. I was very impressed with its sound and its wide range of features for the price! However, there were a couple areas that I feel need to be addressed.

PROS:
- Excellent sound, especially the Movie DCS mode which adds a ton of depth to any movie
- Easy setup
- Excellent integration with a Sony TV. I can fully control my LCD from the receiver remote after hooking up the HDMI cables.
- Full HDMI switching makes initial connection and switching between sources a snap. I can switch between cable and my PS3 with 1 button.
- Wide range of format handling, including Linear PCM.
- Wide range of sound modes.
- No color distortion issues when switching between HDMI sources. This seemed to be a problem in older models.

CONS:
- I found the bass to be a little lacking due to the fact that the subwoofer is passive. I swapped the included one out with this: Yamaha YST-SW216BL Advanced YST II Front-Firing Active Subwoofer and it brought the sound to a whole new level!
- Uses proprietary speaker wire connections. Sony makes it very hard to swap the subwoofer like I described previously because the receiver uses proprietary plugs for the speakers instead of generic speaker wire attachments. The system comes with 4 thin speaker wires with plugs to the receiver on one end, and bare wire on the other to hook up to the satellite speakers. However, the subwoofer's is HARD WIRED, so it can't be detached at all. What's worse is that Sony only sells their speaker wires in packs of 5, for a whopping $55.
To use my new subwoofer, I simply found an aftermarket plug with a small length of wire on eBay, spliced it with some standard 18 gauge wire of my own and hooked it up to my new sub. Voila, it worked like a charm.

OVERALL:
Out of the box, the system is a solid 4/5. With a powered subwoofer and a little bit of handiwork to get around Sony's greed, it can be improved to 5/5.

Harman Kardon HTFS 2 Black Lacquer Speaker Floor Stands Review

Harman Kardon HTFS 2 Black Lacquer Speaker Floor Stands

I ordered 4 of these for each of my main channel speakers. The bases are very heavy and will keep the speakers steady.

It comes with floor studs for either hard wood or carpet. The carpet ones are pretty neat little cleats that stick into the carpet to give it even more stability. The hard floor studs are some little rubber nubs.

The base of the stand is made of aluminum it seems, with a high gloss paint job that matches the speakers surprisingly well. All very modern looking.

I'd def. recommend these for your HKTS systeam.

NHT N-3B Classic Three Speaker (Black, Each) Review

NHT N-3B Classic Three Speaker
Average Reviews:

Stereophile Magazine is correct again - one of the best bookshelf speakers ever produced. After 50 hours burn in time the speakers produce a full range sound both delicate and accurate. The can play at soft or high volume from Jazz to rock. The Stooges Raw Power never sounded so good on a small speaker (Ron Ashton RIP). They are not sensitive to placement and can go against a wall without the usual base exageration. I have an open floor plan with Vandersteen 2CE's in one end of the house and the Classic 3s at the other end 8 feet up on a wall of a cathedral ceiling. Since both sets of speakers have 86 db sensitivity, volumes are perfectly matched. The Vandersteens are $2000 floor standers and a perpetual Stereophile best buy. The $750 classic 3's are bested by the 2 CEs but give up very little considering the size and price difference. They even have a high wife acceptance factor.

Polk Audio RM101 Satellite Speaker (Single, Black) Review

Polk Audio RM101 Satellite Speaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted to post this in case any of you are looking to do a roll-your-own 2.1 system for your computer audio OR use their home theater system as a music system, too.

I needed to reclaim some real estate that my huge 'real' speakers were hogging, and these seemed like a good idea. I purchased 4, total.
Musically, this are a *tad* shrill and hollow (I'm picky), but nothing so bad that some judicious and modest EQ'ing can't overcome. You definitely do not want these in front of you (near field) as you would with traditional computer audio solutions. Get some inexpensive stands and mount them farther in the room. I can't fault Polk for any of this as these aren't marketed as pure audio speakers. But I tell you, these do an admirable job, take up NO space, don't screw up your decor (the woman or picky man in your life will approve) and offer a TREMENDOUS value. More to the point: These and a decent sub will sound leagues better than even the 'nicest' consumer multimedia set. They all suck.

Now for the really good news. I have never, ever seen a speaker in THIS price range, and at this size, perform so well at home theater. Most speakers in this size bracket, including the ridiculously cost-ineffective Bose units, offer nothing in terms of mids. That's a shame because male voices in particular live around there. Kathleen Turner probably does, too. The trade off for attractive and tiny 'lifestyle' type speakers has always been a sacrifice of those frequencies in the hopes that people who buy speakers for looks won't notice (and let's face it, they often don't and instead just praise how "cute" they are). Here you get the size AND the mids.
Bass ports are usually a poorly engineered way to get more low 'bass' out of a cheaper or smaller speaker. What's cool about the rm101 is that it only hits at 95hz and above (no deep bass), and the port acts as a modest amplifier only for mid-bass and other frequencies in that neighborhood. While it's nice to get the xtra oomph in these sounds, the real treat is that the RM101 is ridiculously easy to pair with your sub because of that boost. Even if you don't have a DTS receiver, you can set you sub at appx. 100hz and forget it. The result is seamless blend between the sub and sats where sub/sats often sound very 'disconnected' from each other, particularly when listening to music. I'm really pleased at how well these integrate, thanks in large part to that top port.

Another consideration is looks. These look great, and even though taste is subjective, it's hard to imagine anyone objecting to having these in their decor. They're modern-looking without being obscenely Clockwork Orange. Also, because of their size and keyhole mount in the rear, you can put these on thin and equally unobtrusive stands should you not mount them on the wall. If you do some searching, you'll see that Amazon has some excellent deals in the $30 range for just such a stand.

Sorry to have ranted about music, but a lot of people don't have separate HT and music systems, and I wanted to reach those people who enjoy their tunes as well as the flicks. That said, you can't miss with this speaker in terms of price/quality/size combo.

Average Reviews:

I had just recently purchased the Sony Bravia XBR KDL-46XBR9.This TV has an outstanding picture. However, like all the other flat-panel TVs out there, the sound has a lot to be desired.

So my search began...

Because I'm very limited on space, I had to restrict my search to single bar solutions. After reading all the specs and reviews of the different sound systems on the market, I decided to take a chance on the ZVOX IncrediBase 575 HSD even though I wasn't able to listen to one locally.I have to say that even though I wasn't completely blown away from the sound, I'm very happy with the purchase.

What I like:

1.Significant improvement over the TV sound.
2.Very easy setup.
3.Sits very nicely under the TV and actually looks like another piece of furniture. It's not obvious that it's a speaker system. My wife had to ask me what it was.

What could be better:

1.As with the other ZVOX systems, when you adjust the bass, treble or volume, the only indicator is a flashing blue light. There is no way to tell what level you're setting the adjustments to.This drives me a little crazy. Not sure why ZVOX would have left something so simple to do off the unit.
2.Though the bass is a huge improvement over the TV, it is just adequate.
3.Every once in a while, I'll hear a crackling sound from the unit. Not sure if it is the source or the unit.
4.You have to point the remote right at the unit for it to respond.

All in all I'm very happy with the purchase. As long you you're not expecting chest thumping bass or true 5.1 surround sound, this'll make a nice system for those that are very limited on space.

I only gave the unit four stars because there is no indicator levels and the bass could have been just a bit tighter.

The HDMI version on this product is 1.2.It supports only 2 channel LPCM audio over HDMI.The HDMI switch will also clip BTB and WTW information passed in from the source.

Otherwise, when setup properly in a square room without furnitures, the surround effect works pretty well. But only if you sit directly in front of it.

Yamaha YSP-900 Digital Sound Projector (Black) Review

Yamaha YSP-900 Digital Sound Projector
Average Reviews:

It's true that this system won't replace a setup with true surround speakers, but it's a good compromise for some situations.I have a small TV room and a wife that didn't want surround speakers on the walls.I also didn't want to rip up the walls to conceal wiring or in-wall speakers.Fortunately the room is rectangular and has hard surfaced walls which makes it a good fit for the YSP-900.If you are considering it, keep in mind that it bounces sound off the side and back walls to substitute for the missing left, right, and surround speakers.Without a good surface in the right place then it won't perform well.In my situation it sounds quite good.I hear a convincing stereo image that extends well beyond the device and enveloping surround effects.Dialogue clarity is excellent.

Other points to consider:

- The YSP-900 may seem expensive but remember that it includes a surround processor and amp so you just plug in your audio sources and go.This also reduces clutter in the minimal installations that the device is well-suited for.
- The bass output is weak so you definitely will want to add a subwoofer.
- If you are planning on wall-mounting, you will need to buy the SPM-K30bracket which is NOT included. If you have a wall-mounted flat panel TV the YSP-900 will look great under it.

Harman Kardon HKTS 7 6-Piece Loudspeaker System Review

Harman Kardon HKTS 7 6-Piece Loudspeaker System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Heh, no probably not...but they're still AMAZING speakers.I just got these last night from my parents for Christmas. They're an upgrade to the speakers that came with my $200 Sony HT-DDW600 home theater package that I bought for my college apartment almost 3 years ago.

Sadly, I still only have the receiver that came with said home theater package so these speakers aren't doing everything they could be.However, even with that third-rate receiver, the sound from the HKTS-7 speakers is breathtaking. These are a monumental upgrade to the old speakers...especially that massive sub (it's 19" tall).

My apartment was shaking last night while watching the NIN - Beside You in Time HD DVD.And the sub is only turned up about 2/3 of the way (it's got it's own individual level control)! But, unlike the sub that came with the HT-DDW600, this is a self-powered sub and has MUCH cleaner sound. When turning the "bass" up on the receiver past about 4 (out of 10) the woofer would thump/thud and just sound completely overworked and about to explode. The HKTS-7 sub gave deep rich bass with the receiver turned up to 6.I'm absolutely confident that with a proper receiver these speakers will truly show their power.

I'm thinking of matching them with a Harmon Kardon AVR-347.It has HDMI-in/out and, as long as you have a player that can decode them, it will handle Dolby Digital+, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio.Adding these speakers with a receiver that handles the high definition audio formats coming from an HD DVD player will provide the ultimate home theater experience for those that either can't afford speakers that cost $2000 each or live in a place that would likely kick them out for pushing that kind of sound around.

The HKTS-7 provides amazing sound for an unbelievable price.I could not be more pleased with these speakers. My only complaints are:
** The ends of the wires are coated in what I would assume is nickel. It's nice, but one of the wires' ends snapped off incredibly easily and then I had to try to not cut off my fingers as I stripped the wires back a bit with a knife.

** The wall brackets require #8 screws in order to be attached to the wall. These are not included. So unless you have some laying around the house somewhere, you'll be needing to make a trip to the hardware store.

Otherwise, I very much look forward to getting a new receiver and watching the Bourne trilogy HD DVDs on my Samsung HLT-6187s 61" 1080p LED DLP HDTV while thoroughly enjoying high definition sound with these speakers.

Pros : Plenty of Volume (1000W) Great pairing with LG T.V.
Comes with Excellent Ipod Adapter and sounds great for
an all-in-one solution. Chalk full of features.
Comes with speaker Wire too.
Cons : As with most other systems...Inputs! Only has one Optical but
thank goodness for that. Only has preset Equalizer settings.
Long Review (A lot to say and want to answer any questions)

I had been looking around for a good 5.1 system that decodes all the popular signals such as Dolby Digital and DTS sound.
Not Looking to spend a whole lot of cash I needed a simple solution.
I have looked around online and in stores at a variety of options.
When it came down to it I had considered heavily on the sony soundbar mainly because it was the only low price ranged sound system with 3 HDMI inputs. But when I went to bestbuy and listened to it all of my fears came true as far as volume. The soundbar was just too low unless I would have kept it cranked up. Then after weighing the other options of a receiver/speakers (Panasonic receiver)combo the price just was just barely in my range but really didnt want to spend all my cash. Then remebering that my T.V. was an LG (42pg20 42"Plasma) I decided to check out this model. Going out on a limb I was wary because of the one input.
Much to my suprise this unit is awesome for a HTS.
Now for an audiophile the 1.0% THD might discourage you but for around
$220 It something Even I could overlook.(Also have a high end 6.1 sony receiver and yamaha speakers in the house, they have like a .07 THD)
This system gets so loud too. My room is only a 14ft. by 20ft. room but I never even have to turn the volume up over half to crank it while watching a movie.(Actually never had to go over that) The sub kicks.
Also this unit not only upscales DVD's through the built-in Dvd player(which looks great) it also plays from Ipod with the INCLUDED Ipod Dock (Through OSD or via Ipod control which is cool), From USB, and from the digital optical in. (Will of course also play mp3 music, jpg pictures, and divx movies, and probably a few other formats that I am forgetting). If that wasnt enough LG also included a am/fm receiver in this unit with a loop antennae.
Hooking up the unit was straight forward, the wiring is 18 gauge wire ,About 18ft. long for the rear speakers, about 12ft. for the sub that is color coded, pre stripped at the ends and ready to go.
There is an HDMI Out (I ran to the T.V.) and a couple other outs, composite and standard RCA I think). There was a little delay in the audio from my Digital DVR cable box when I ran the HDMI Out of my cable box into my T.V. and then optical out of my T.V. into the Home theatre. Problem was solved by running the optical from my cable box straight into the home theatre. The Home theatre also automatically picks up whatever kind of sound source it needs to decode and displays it on the front of the unit.
If you have an LG T.V. with simplink then it is really simple to control the System as it syncs right up and even turns on the unit when synced and off when the T.V. turns off.
The remote for the unit also has controls for the T.V., If you dont own an LG TV then no fear as the remote is programmable for your T.V.
The OSD allows you to set aspect ratio and resolution for your T.V as well as test the speakers and turn up each one individually as necessary.
There is No way to set your own E.Q. though but the presets are good even though you probably wont even have to use them. There is also an audio delay fixer (up to 300ms).
Overall I would give it a 4.5 because of all its features but lack of inputs.Recommend to anyone on a budget and wanting a great home theatre with plenty of options.

I bought these for dual purposes; to improve audibility in my home theater setup, and to allow me to listen to music through that setup without being frustrated by the typical home theater's audio quality. These are superb for both uses. They give an open, clear, balanced sound no matter where you sit. They give excellent audio detail. You hear things in the music you did not know were there. They have a 'precise' sound. My main speakers are Mirage OM-9's, they were 3K and the top of their line when I got them. These speakers with my home theater subwoofer are quite close and I don't lose much except a bit of base tightness when I move from one system to another. If you're looking for clean, detailed, precise sound, I recommend these very highly.

Dramatically increasing sound dispersion and turning flat recordings into full-bodied, near-realistic performances, the M-I quickly set the standard in speaker performance. Mirage has done it again. With the Mirage OmniSat 13465 Omnipolar Speaker, Mirage's unique patent-pending Omnipolar technology radiates sound in a full, 360-degree, spherical spectrum that will envelop you in a world of sound that you've never experienced before.

Mirage's OmniSat Omnipolar speaker.
Finest components, top to bottom. View larger. Patent-Pending Omnipolar Technology
Mirage OmniSat Speakers use Omnipolar technology that relies on natural room reflections to produce a greater sense of realism, as well as create a deep, wide and tall sound stage. This phenomenon is accomplished by recreating the same ratio of direct to reflected sound found in nature--70 percent reflected and 30 percent direct. It is the additional reflected sound provided by the speaker that creates the Omnipolar three-dimensional sound experience.
Another way to think about it is to picture yourself at a live music performance or at the theater. The sounds you hear come not just directly from the performers, but are also reflected off the walls, ceiling, floor and other objects. While our brains use direct sound to recognize where it is coming from, it is the reflected sound that provides the sense of space and adds depth to musical performances. What this means to you is that once you've set up your speaker system, it almost doesn't matter where you sit. Unlike traditional speakers, there is no "sweet spot" for you to best appreciate the music. With the OmniSat 13465, the best seat in the house is just about anywhere you choose to sit.
To achieve this stunning experience, Mirage has built into the OmniSat 13465 some of the finest components, materials, manufacturing techniques and cutting-edge technologies that you'll find in any speaker. The OmniSat 13465 features the latest generation of Mirage's Pure Titanium Hybrid (PTH) tweeter. PTH tweeters have earned worldwide recognition for their crystal clear and lifelike high-frequency reproduction, low distortion, and wide dispersion.
The PTH tweeter dome is mated to a compliant cloth suspension, eliminating the harsh ringing effect often found with metal domes. The small, new Mirage mid-bass driver is constructed with injection-molded polypropylene, impregnated with graphite, carbon, and mica, and is titanium-coated to provide increased strength and rigidity in a super-light cone.

Omnipolar technology radiates sound in a full 360 degree spherical spectrum. View larger. To help create the lifelike Omnipolar effect using only two drivers, the speaker's dispersion modules are strategically positioned, conical shaped cylinders that disperse the sound from the drivers in a spherical direction. To achieve its tight and accurate bass response, Mirage utilizes polypropylene titanium deposit hybrid cones with Santaprene surrounds. Briefly, the cones are subjected to a titanium deposit process that gives them an ideal stiffness-to-weight ratio, while the Santaprene surrounds provide better strength and flexibility than rubber or foam.
The OmniSat 13465 provides 150 watts of total power with a frequency response of 70 Hz-20 kHz (+/- 3 dB). Add to all of this magnetic shielding that allows the speaker to be placed next to or on top of a television without causing interference to the picture and high-quality, five-way binding posts that allow the use of high-gauge speaker wire and connectors, and there you've got a speaker that offers tremendous sound reproduction and performance.
The Mirage Design
Mirage's revolutionary Omnipolar speakers break free from conventional speakers with a compact, circular design and an elegant platinum/black finish that will fit and perform flawlessly in virtually any room.
At a mere seven pounds and measuring 8 x 6.25 x 8 inches (HxWxD), the OmniSat 13465 is compact enough to sit on practically any horizontal surface in your room. It is also designed to allow for several installation options. The speaker is equipped with a dual key-way bracket for simple wall installation with just one screw, and it also comes with a clip that makes installing it on the ceiling a breeze. You can also purchase an optional OmniSat stand in either white or platinum/black for easy placement anywhere in your room.
In addition to platinum/black, the speakers come in three additional color options: black, white, and platinum. Perfect for music, or the ideal way to create a remarkable home-theater experience when used in combination with the Mirage Omni S8 13698 8-inch Subwoofer, the OmniSat 13465 will enhance your listening experiences with sound that you'll not soon forget.

M3 v3 Bookshelf Speaker - Mansfield Beech Review

In my pursuit of audiophile quality nirvana, after going through many name brand speakers over the years, the Axioms have hit the mark ! Here are the reasons, and not just technical ones.

First, let me say that Axiom is an audiophile speaker manufacturing company based in Canada that has been in the business for a little over 20 years(they are definitely not a generic no-name brand to Canadians and those of us in America who are able to obtain these wonderful speakers).Their well designed and thought out website is rich in product visuals, technical and ordering information. While you will NOT see or be able to hear any Axiom speakers at your local home electronic big box retailers here in the U.S. the only thing you can do is look for reviews on the internet;reviews from top audio critics and purchasers praising the high end quality of these babies! Axiom's customer service offers a wonderful 30 day try-it-and -return-it-if-you-don't-like-it policy (of course sans shipping cost). Their customer service is excellent and extremely knowledgeable in any questions or concerns you may have from purchasing to technical inquiries(you're not communicating with sales reps just out to make a fast buck or commission---you are treated like a person)! Their sales and service dept. staff keep you immediately informed of when your order has shipped out as well as online tracking information. If you have any problems or concerns they can also be reached via toll free number. You also receive a friendly e-mail acknowledgement that receipt of your order shipment/arrival is completed.

The next remarkable aspect of the Axiom family of speakers are the audiophile budget minded prices. The old cliche "bang for the buck" is tried and true with Axiom. There are no hidden additional handling costs or inflated prices to give that "air" of elite snootiness ("Hey, if I spend thousands of dollars on these speakers, I must be getting what I paid for and that makes me special...").Their prices all across the board, from their entry level speakers to their tower speaker line, are very reasonable if not surprisingly inexpensive!

Now, how do the M3ti Axioms perform? Without getting too technical, they are musical sounding when they should be and can also reproduce dvd surround sound effects with astounding accuracy, realism and ease.I have used both analog and digital sources and have found the clarity and detail to be very satisfactory and even surprising at times. What's amazing is the size of the cabinet enclosures. As Yoda would probably say,"Size matters not !"---and he's right. However, laws of physics and sound dictate that in order to really get the most out of the listening experience is to mate these with a subwoofer. On their own, they still reveal remarkable highs and mids and an acceptable level of bass. With or without a sub, the real test is to just close your eyes and LISTEN ! The stereo imaging is impeccable. The mids and highs are smooth, but not too neutral or warm, or dull sounding. The titanium tweeters offer a silky rich characteristic but nothing to give you ear fatigue. The midrange is a bit punchy(but by no means artificial or overemphasized) and well pronounced (at times I felt like I was listening to a 3-way speaker system)! When placed on a pair of speaker stands, the music floats in the air and never is there any hint that the sound is coming from a pair of small boxes; due to the special wedge-shaped design this practically eliminates that "boxy" cabinet resonating sound found in cheaper made speakers. The sub I am currently using is a Velodyne CHT8. All three speaker units integrate seamlessly. I often forget I'm listening to a couple of shelf speakers and a sub. The sound quality is more like a couple of mid sized floor units! There is no sonic strain that I could detect when playing them loud. One must also keep in mind that loud is not necessarily a trait of audiophile quality; they must also be able to reproduce the most subtle and minute nuances as well with great clarity and detail. The M3ti's accomplish this very well indeed.I can leave the room and walk into the kitchen or another adjacent room and the clarity can be heard versus a muffled sound from other lesser speakers. There is no colored or saturated sound as many other speaker companies try to introduce into their bookshelves to make them sing like tower speakers---those often end up having a very "phony" sonic quality. With the Axiom M3ti's,classical guitar strings have that natural and crisp "plucking" and airy characteristic along with the proper acoustical characteristics that emanate from such an instrument (same for a harp). Bongos and congas present themselves with such vividness (you can almost see the peformer tapping or pounding on them and hear their finger tips and palms striking the skins). Female vocals are very natural and soothing(I could hear words pronounced so crytal clear , even ending consonants on words that with my old speakers used to roll off or just cut off and disappear). I'm hearing details I never heard before.Period. Male vocals may have a little thinness to them but not enough to make a major difference or to detract from the overall grand musical presentaion.

The looks (from four wood veneer colors to choose from to special color customization), the sound quality all speak in volumes (no pun intended) of the technological thought, design, detail, and craftsmanship that has gone into the Axioms.I personally chose the Mansfield Beech with black grills; I love the black and light wood contrast;it blends in very well with my surrounding rustic furniture.I really deliberated for awhile between the Beech veneer and the Boston Cherry (the BC has a very elegant and expensive look, but nothing I have furniture or decor-wise would match). There is a much lighter wood color, I believe maple, but it reminded me of a piece of furniture that still needs to be stained and worked on---it just looked "unfinished" to me.Anybody who appreciates high end sound but says they don't care what the speakers look like is lying; Once you look at the complete Axiom line, they have a very classy and appealing look that should suit and satisfy anyone's home furnishings and decor. There's an overall contemporary elegance to their cabinet designs.Again, The prices are affordable. This is an awesome message that conveys to people desiring a step up into the world of audiophile quality speakers that you don't have to break the piggy bank or dip into the kids' college fund. Shipping is via Fed Ex to most states and is very fast---my speakers arrived from Canada to Arizona in 2-3 days tops ! These have definitely more than just wet my appetite; In time, I will also look forward to purchasing their tower speakers as well. I went out on a limb and solely ordered these based on glowing reviews from both sound critics and customer reviews praising the Axioms and am not at all disappointed.Buying the Axiom M3ti speakers is a win-win situation !

Jamo Sub 250 Subwoofer (Single, Black) Review

Jamo Sub 250 Subwoofer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
i cant understand why but the fuse blew after two minutes of this being used, and after replacing the fuse, the same thing happened again. i imagine that this is not common and i am guessing this was a rare malfunction but for all i know it could be a design flaw. the sound it made was better than any 8 inch subwoofer i have heard, but i had very little time to listen to it, and it is limited a little by its woofer size. if youre looking for very loud and very low bass, this might be too restrained and limited, but it is built very well, sounded precise and clean, has many features, and klipsch was very helpful when i called to troubleshoot (klipsch now owns jamo and is apparently beginning to limit their sales more to europe, where theyre much more popular, i think i might have bought the last of these actually) if you want to risk the slight possibility of malfunction and dont want the lowest, loudest bass, this is an excellent speaker, but not the best for its price, im looking at a BIC v1020 (cheaper, same build quality, lower bass from a 10" woofer, similar features). i expected a little more bass since the 6.5" woofers in my Jamo s 406 floorstanders matched my old sony 8" sub. Jamo makes some very very good speakers but this was an unpleasant experience involving the hunting down of some uncommon and now useless fuses.

Product Description:
The Jamo Sub 250 subwoofer is equipped with an 8" subwoofer unit housed in a unique slotted port cabinet. It features a powerful BASH amplifier capable of delivering 250W of peak power. Relative to its size and price, the SUB 250 delivers outstanding performance and is capable of producing bass frequencies down to 30 Hz. The SUB 250 has a very flat frequency response which allows it to play bass notes in a very convincing manner as compared to many conventional bass-reflex subwoofers. That response extends all the way up to 150Hz. This is important because the output from many subwoofers falls off dramatically at above 100Hz (or even lower with some models) making them very hard to integrate with smaller speakers.
