ZVOX 575HSD IncediBase Low-Profile High-Performance Single-Cabinet Surround Sound System Review

I had just recently purchased the Sony Bravia XBR KDL-46XBR9.This TV has an outstanding picture. However, like all the other flat-panel TVs out there, the sound has a lot to be desired.

So my search began...

Because I'm very limited on space, I had to restrict my search to single bar solutions. After reading all the specs and reviews of the different sound systems on the market, I decided to take a chance on the ZVOX IncrediBase 575 HSD even though I wasn't able to listen to one locally.I have to say that even though I wasn't completely blown away from the sound, I'm very happy with the purchase.

What I like:

1.Significant improvement over the TV sound.
2.Very easy setup.
3.Sits very nicely under the TV and actually looks like another piece of furniture. It's not obvious that it's a speaker system. My wife had to ask me what it was.

What could be better:

1.As with the other ZVOX systems, when you adjust the bass, treble or volume, the only indicator is a flashing blue light. There is no way to tell what level you're setting the adjustments to.This drives me a little crazy. Not sure why ZVOX would have left something so simple to do off the unit.
2.Though the bass is a huge improvement over the TV, it is just adequate.
3.Every once in a while, I'll hear a crackling sound from the unit. Not sure if it is the source or the unit.
4.You have to point the remote right at the unit for it to respond.

All in all I'm very happy with the purchase. As long you you're not expecting chest thumping bass or true 5.1 surround sound, this'll make a nice system for those that are very limited on space.

I only gave the unit four stars because there is no indicator levels and the bass could have been just a bit tighter.

Nakamichi SoundSpace 8.5 Home Theater System with Surround Processor, DVD/CD Player, 5 Satellite Speakers, and Dual Subwoofers Review

Nakamichi SoundSpace 8.5 Home Theater System with Surround Processor, DVD/CD Player, 5 Satellite Speakers, and Dual Subwoofers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought one of these Nakamichi SS 8.5 HTS units new from an Amazon Marketplace seller. The unit arrived in good condition, and worked wonderfully right out of the box.The sound was exceptional, and the unit was relatively simple to set up.

The problems started after about 20 DVD plays (a little over two months after we purchased it).The unit was unresponsive when we tried to turn it on, and a DVD was trapped in the DVD module. When the power button was turned on, the power module would not display any message, and would only show a few lights flickering faintly. The seller told us that the warranty could only be handled by Nakamichi.Knowing Nakamichi's reputation for quality, I called their customer service number and asked for instructions.

Nakamichi instructed me to send just the 3 modules and some wiring to an authorized repair facility in New Jersey (at my expense). The shop in New Jersey took a couple of weeks to get to it, and told me that the unit was 'unrepairable', shipped it back to me, and instructed me to ship the entire unit (wiring, speakers, books, and all) to a warehouse in California run by a Nakamichi-authorized warranty company called "ESI".I packaged the entire unit up and sent it off FEDEX insured to California (again at my cost).

Several weeks went by, and I heard nothing from ESI about my warranty exchange.I used several e-mails and phone calls over the next several weeks asking for the status of the exchange, and finally got an answer from an ESI representative who told me that the unit had been damaged in shipping, and that I must file a claim with FEDEX for the damaged parts.I immediately did so, and FEDEX told me that they would send someone over to ESI's warehouse to pick up the unit and take it back to FEDEX for inspection.

By now, we had been without the unit longer than we actually had the unit running.Several more weeks passed without any word, and neither FEDEX or ESI would respond to e-mail or phone calls.I e-mailed Nakamichi for another contact at ESI, and received an e-mail stating that:
1. They claimed never to have heard of ESI, and that this was NOT an authorized warranty center.
2. They did not currently have ANY warranty claim center operating in the United States.
3. They had no further information to share with me about my warranty claim.

At this point, fearing that my expensive HTS system had vanished into a black hole, I filled out a fraud claim with my state's attorney general's office, and with the Federal Trade Commission's fraud website.

I sent copies of this paperwork and my receipts to Nakamichi, ESI, FEDEX, and the New Jersey warranty claim center.

Strangely enough, about a week later, I suddenly heard from ESI that the person I had been in contact with had been replaced by a new contact, and that FEDEX had picked up the unit and was waiting for the decision from their inspector.

The end of this nightmare came from FEDEX, who could no longer find the unit after it had been picked up, and then paid for the item in full.

So after over 7 months, dozens of e-mails and phone calls, and the loss of several hundred dollars in shipping costs, I received my money back thanks to a fluke inventory loss by FEDEX, and NOT from Nakamichi.

The Nakamichi SoundSpace 8.5 that I bought quit completely after less than three month's minimal use, and careful care. The unit was plugged into a 4-megajoule Belkin surge protector, and had been turned off after each use.So the durability of the SS 8.5 is highly suspect, and Nakamichi's warranty program is a disorganized mess.

Therefore, I strongly advise that potential buyers DO NOT BUY a Nakamichi SoundSpace 8.5 Home Theater System in particular, and avoid Nakamichi products in general. This product receives a well-deserved one star rating.

Product Description:
Nakamichi's stylish, powerful SoundSpace 8-1/2 DVD home theater system produces dynamic, exciting surround sound from Dolby Digital and DTS DVD soundtracks and includes a range of user-friendly functions to manage continuous DVD/CD/MP3 CD playback. A 5-channel satellite speaker system in charcoal and silver immerses your senses in Nakamichi's trademark high-level sound, while the system's plug-and-play simplicity and scalability let you add other components with ease. The SoundSpace 8-1/2 features not just 1, but 2 stand-alone powered subwoofers to provide sound that's as carefully balanced as it is powerful.
The system is built around 3 separate units: a top-loading DVD player, an AV tuner/processor with a built-in FM tuner and DSP/surround-sound circuit, and a center-channel amplifier. All components feature a brushed-aluminum top panel and a sleek, half-mirror acrylic-finished front panel. Compact and slim, the units can be stacked on top of one another to form a cube, placed side by side, or arranged in any other way to suit your taste and decor.
The AV tuner/processor is the system's control center. Its front panel offers only the minimum necessary controls--source selection, main system volume, and FM tuning--so as not to mar the panel's stylishness or interfere with its ease of use. A headphone jack, optical digital output (minijack-type for hookup with a minidisc recorder), and auxiliary input (stereo analog minijack) are aligned at the bottom left. In addition to an FM tuner, the AV tuner/processor all digital signal processing, from surround decoding to Dolby Pro-Logic II processing, which generates discrete 5.1-channel sound from stereo (2-channel) sources. Furthermore, the processor offers Natural, Hall, and Stadium modes, simulating the natural ambience of different environments for your movies and music.
The system's amplifier design is a twin-mono configuration engineered to bring surround sound reproduction ever closer to perfection. The amplifiers mounted in the left subwoofer drive the front-left and rear-left speakers in addition to the subwoofer. Similarly, the amplifiers in the other sub amplify the signals for the 3 (including the subwoofer) right-side speakers. This maintains separation between the left and right channels, virtually eliminating interference and crosstalk between the 6 speakers. The center channel, whose low-frequency content is evenly divided between the subwoofers, gets its own stand-alone amplifier.
The SoundSpace's compact satellite speaker system provides exceptional installation flexibility. You can arrange the speakers in various ways to suit a given room: on a sideboard, on a bookshelf, or on the floor using optional SA-1 floor stands. You can also fix them to a wall to save space using the optional SA-2 wall mount kit.
The satellites each use a 2-way, 3-driver design, with two 2-inch midrange drivers and a 1-inch semi-dome tweeter. All speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent distortion when placed on or near a television or computer monitor. Further, the speakers' drivers are arranged so as to achieve the utmost in realism and perceived image definition: the tweeter position is ingeniously shifted backwards to prevent phase distortion with the high and midrange frequencies. The speaker enclosures are finished in a dark metallic gray that perfectly matches the system's main unit, while the front grilles are light metallic silver.
Subwoofer performance is precisely adjusted so that the upper range of the bass output blends smoothly with lower-frequency sound from the satellites. The active subwoofers each use a magnetically shielded 6.3-inch woofer housed in a bandpass enclosure designed for optimal efficiency, maximum dynamic ability, and minimum size. Individual subwoofer level controls are mounted on the units' rear panels. The enclosures are finished in the same color and fabric as the satellite speakers.
What's in the Box
DVD/CD player/tuner unit, center-channel amplifier, 2 subwoofers, 4 satellites, 1 center-channel speaker, all requisite cabling, a user's manual, and warranty information.

Fluance 5 Speaker Surround Sound Home Theater System SX-HTB+ Review

Fluance 5 Speaker Surround Sound Home Theater System SX-HTB+

Build Quality and sound. That's really your 1-2 punch here. For a speaker set in this price range (even if it was just a LR stereo set) there is no earthly reason you should be getting anything as well made as this.I was trying to set up an "upgradeable, but functional now" surround system, and figured this would be a good bet for a few years til I got the money for a better speaker set. After hoking everything up though, these speakers will be around for a minute.Absolutely gorgeous, bomb proof quality, gorgeous sound. You will be amazed these came for this price.

Only 2 Caveats though. You will, if not now, then eventually, want to add a matched Sub.The Bass is decent, but not up to Par with what most people will want.Secondly, be aware that the speakers are big, and heavy. These are not going to work with most Theater in a Box targeted surround stands, made for light plastic rear speakers. Also, your two towers are imposing enough to dwarf smaller TV's.just something to consider if you're in the high 20's, low 30's range or smaller.

Just purchased it yesterday, this is our first HT experience. We are thrilled by the surround sound so far, I am in the process of testing all options, will update the review as well as star rating as I see more.
So far, the Pros are:
1) excellent surround sound
2) special Hbass for additional bass is awesome
3) plays dvds,cds,mp3s very well
4) interfaced quickly to my Philips TV, so can use the same remote for tv too. Now can watch TV shows/movies on home theater!
5) set-up with manual was quick and easy
6) aesthetically my wife loves the tower-front speakers
7) 5-disc changer is such that you can put CDs/DVDs in the unoccupied trays without interruption current CD/DVD play.

So far, the Cons are:
1) does not play mpegs
2) does not play vcds burnt with divx
3) remote has a gazillion options, will take time to master it!
4) Speaker wires which come with the HT are not great, will definitely need replacement down the line.

New addition:
Pros
1) Plays jpegs very well, it scans through your data disc and displays all jpeg files as a slideshow. Files not recognised are skipped. Using "playlist" on the remote, is like using windows explorer on the TV screen for selecting specific files.

JBL SCS300.7 Complete 7.1-Channel Home Cinema Speaker System

I am totally blown away buy these speakers. JBL has put together a very fine package here. First the package, these babys come with everything you need to connect to your stereo, enough wire for just about every possible configuration, they even include the RCA cable for the LFE input. They are heavy, which to me says quality. (75lbs). Stands and wall brackets for all speakers are also included. The wall brackets are the adjustable type (nice!). Now the sound, the satelites are sharp as a tack. The sub pounds out movie soundtracks with authority, and is equally up to music. I did find that there was a slight "hole" in the midrange for music, but with some tweaking I was able to get things just right. I think for the money you would be hard pressed to do better. Highly recommended.

Samsung HT-TX72 DVD Home Theater System Review

Samsung HT-TX72 DVD Home Theater System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased this system when it's price was sub $300 and I'm glad I didn't pay any more for it.
The system kicks out a MAJOR PUNCH in the sound department, with deep bass that will rumble the room thanks to it's HUGE subwoofer. It's as big as a PC tower case and blasts!
Sadly, you have to have it blast if you want to hear anything. There are few controls for the sound levels and trying to listen as low volumes was worse audio quality than listening to the TV with it's built in speakers.
The system is either too quiet to hear anything but voices, or too loud to hear anything other than boom.
Also, when in stereo mode, the back speakers shut off. There is one option that will do stereo with them on (Matrix Mode) but it tries to separate sounds and ends up with the speakers just making some noises sometimes and is a bit disconcerting.
The upconverting DVD player looks pretty poor on a high def television. There also is no difference with upscale from 480p to 1080i, it's just as blocky. If you've not seen a better upscaler (as found in the PS3 for example) then it might look okay, albeit blocky, but if you have seen a better one you won't be able to watch DVD's on your HDTV with this without feeling as if you're missing something.
Lastly... the fan. After a while a fan inside the receiver will kick in. This thing is LOUD. That shouldn't happen on a sound system - having something that makes listening to things worse.
Overall, I'm very dissapointed in this product and suggest you look elsewhere for a home theater system. I'm considering returning this item and wished I'd read a review like this first, so I'd know to stay away.

I just purchased this system 2 days ago and let me tell you it is a BLAST! Though you have to do some tweeking to bring out the full potential of this system. I read some of the previous reviews for this system and let me tell you some of the other buyers of this system did not know how to use this system. First of all the 320 watt subwoofer is fully adustable. So you have to adjust it up to level 4 then press the heavy bass button to bring out it's full potential. Next you need to go under system quick setup, then audio, then speakers and adjust them up to 5.0 ms to bring then up to speed.

After that you need to press the surround music button which will really fill your room with awesome surround sound. And last but not least you CAN use this system as audio while watching daily tv programs as well. What you have to do is run an auxiliary cable(red and white) from the aux slot on the back of the receiver/dvd player to the aux slot on the back of your tv. Then you press the ext-in button until it says aux. And boom! You have theatre sound for your daily viewing. I can't get enough of this system. It really blew away my expectations once I finished tweaking it.After some minor tweaking this system really thumps on level 30 yet it can go all the way up to level 50. It really shines on cd's and radio. Also sounds great on dvd's as well. Good surround sound for daily viewing. Can't wait to play some xbox on it as well. So to any potential buyers breezing through this review and thinking about it getting this system I can promise you won't be dissapointed. Grab one now!

Denon DHT-FS3 Home Theater in a Box Review

Denon DHT-FS3 Home Theater in a Box
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased the DHT-FS3 hoping not so much for a 5.1 sound-alike experience but simply hoping for a good "TV speaker replacement" system.Unfortunately, while the Denon is the best sounding system of its type, it simply wasn't to be for my application.

First, the size of the unit is a bit larger in some ways that one would expect and smaller than others.Denon obviously designed the unit to fit in front of a flat screen TV, as they thoughtfully provided feet that are widely spaced (about 20") so that the unit can straddle the front of most TV manufacturer's flat screen pedestals. But it's also wider than one might expect - it's wider than a 16:9 32" TV, but a bit narrower than a 37".

The sound is GOOD, but not great. At no time will you think you're in front of not only a 5.1 surround system but even a decent stereo system using bookshelf loudspeakers; however it does sound better than any built-in TV speakers could, and it outdoes most "mini" systems as well, likely including offerings such as Denon's own S-101 HTIB system.Like most such systems, the bass is a bit "thumpy" - the sub just doesn't integrate well with the satellites and crosses over fairly high- around 125-150 Hz - so you never lose sight of the fact that most of your sound is coming from "up there" but the bass notes are coming from "down there."

The unit has multiple inputs - two sets of RCAs for analog, including one set that can be used with one of Denon's iPod docks, two optical digital and one coaxial digital. The setup has many nice features, including distance to the listener, bass/treble (unlike Bose systems, but here the adjustments are in fairly large 2dB increments) and a nice universal remote to control your TV, DVD player and the speaker unit.It can play in straight stereo, "wide" surround, Dolby Digital or even DTS, and all sound reasonably good for this application.

The design flaw? While not Denon's fault, most every flat panel TV manufacturer puts the sensor for their remote control along the bottom of the TV, meaning if the Denon's sitting in front of the TV, I can just about guarantee it will be blocking the TV's remote sensor unless you're using it with a larger set (40" or more) and the sensor's in the corner, or your TV somewhat more intelligently placed the sensor along the TV's sides or top frame.

I don't mean to come across as overly harsh, but I really had high hopes for a product like this from Denon, and sound-wise it really didn't sound as good as I thought it would. That's not really their fault; you can only do so much with smaller drivers in a rather small enclosure. But on the other hand, it does do a better job of producing a virtual surround effect than any TV's built-in surround effect (e.g. "SRS") or the similar Yamaha Sound Projectors.

So in short, it's worth a try if you're looking for a product like this, but the fact that it would block my TV's IR sensor immediately made it a non-starter for me as soon as I removed it from its box.Perhaps in a future model Denon can thoughtfully provide an "IR blaster" on the back of the unit to automatically repeat IR signals it sees to any TV sensors that may be located behind it.

It's truly a beautiful LOOKING unit, the piano black finish blending nicely with the similar finish used on most flat panels that don't use a silvery frame. It's certainly a reasonable value for the price, given what it would cost to build a similar quality system for components or find as high quality a HTIB ("Home Theatre in a Box") system.

However, for the sole reason that it blocks my TV's remote sensor, I've no alternate place to place it, and it neither has an IR blaster nor provision to drive one, it's back in its shipping box just about three hours after first opening it.

Was in the market for a home theatre system and after looking at several different brands, I settled on the Panasonic SC-PT770 system. Went with the Panasonic since I have a 56" Panasonic tv. This was very easy to set up and works great in the small area that I have it in. The sound quality is great! The sub hit's with a very nice deep thump! I love the IPod connection with the one screen display. Works very well. The wireless rear speakers work great as well. I did not have any issues or interference with my wireless network like some other folks have mentioned in their reveiw. Of course, I do agree that there was not enough speaker wire for the rear speakers. I used the sound setup mic and it seemed to dial in the speakers like it was supposed to. Thus far, I am very pleased with this system and would highly recommend it!!!

Product Description:
With Panasonic, you can choose from 3 different types of Home Theaters that match your preference and room. Panasonic SC-PT770 Overview; High Quality Sound: The SC-PT770 uses front and center Bamboo Cone Speakers and a Kelton Subwoofer for crisp, clear mid- and high-frequency ranges and powerful, deep bass. A rigid, low-density bamboo material used in the fron and center speaker's cones helps achieve a clean, responseive sound. Vocals are pure and clear and dialog is crisp and easy to understand. The Kelton Type Subwoofer has an internal structure that is divided into two completely sealed spaces. The drive unit that is mounted to the space in the back causes the air in the front space to vibrate. This causes and Acoustic Filter effect in the front space to absorb unwanted noise while also vibrating the Passive Radiators. This achieves highly robust, reverberating bass sounds. Built-in Dolby Digital and DTS Decoder renders movie-theater-like sound while Home Theater Mode produces a total ouput power of 1000W of High Clarity Sound.Easy to Use: The built-in Universal Dock for iPod gives you a great new way to enjoy music and video3. Just slip your iPod into the cradle and enjoy. The dock charges your iPod , allows you to use the home theater remote to control the iPod , has on-screen audio menus, and also plays back iPod video. The SC-PT770 includes the front to rear wireless speakers, and a High Speed 5-DVD/CD changer with Multi-format Plaback: DVD-Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, DVD-R, +R, +RW, CD, CD-R/RW, Video CD, SVCD, WMA, MP3, and JPEG. Environmentally Friendly: Add to this feature set a Smart Setup mode with Auto Speaker Setup and and Energy Star compliance, Low Power consumption for Stand-by (0.1W), and you have an ideal Home Theater solution.

A search of the internet will quickly reveal many in the audiophile community bashing "home theater in a box" (htib) systems like this, and many of their entirely valid criticisms of such systems apply to this unit, but it has a lot of redeeming qualities too that make me overall convinced that this is a good buy for anyone whose needs match what it provides. Also it is a pretty high end htib so the sound quality will exceed what many would expect.A quick word on settings: This unit comes with a number of effects such as surround enhancement and some pre set EQ settings.Don't use them.Maybe turn down the sub a bit and turn up the center channel, but your goal with movies is to ACCURATELY reproduce the sound as it was intended to be heard.Keep everything flat and you will hear how the movie was meant to sound. That's how I know this is a quality htib: It sounds good with everything flat)

This is a good system for what it is, namely a way to get both blu-ray and 5.1 surround in one convenient and affordable package. The rear speakers are wireless, as in there is a second amp that connects wirelessly to the main amp so you don't have to run cables from the front to back of the room although you do have to run cables from the second amp to the rear speakers. The rears are very light and thus easy to mount on the wall, and I don't worry about that lack of weight too much because surrounds really don't need much power as they just add effects. The fronts and center are much beefier and are two-ways with what appears to be real crossovers so that's pretty good for a home theater in a box.The subwoofer is (unfortunately) passive but its driver is bamboo so I don't think it has the paper-driver problems of other htibs. It seems to cross over at a decent point as the bass stays properly nondirectional. All in all, in my fairly small room it sounds really great for me, and it's pretty cool how it has all the latest surround decoders including Dolby trueHD and DTS HD.

All that said, this system definitely has some typical htib limitations: It has proprietary speaker connections so you can't use other wire without splicing. You can, however, use other speakers because the speakers themselves use standard connections (only the amp-end connection is proprietary). You can also expand to 7.1 sound either by another proprietary (and wireless) panasonic amp or the unit actually does have wired surround outputs so that you can plug in other amps and speakers for the front and back surrounds. However, the proprietary wire is permanently implanted in the subwoofer and naturally there's no way to get a nonamplified subwoofer signal out of this amp so even with some wire splicing ability I doubt you could add a powered sub.So you could upgrade the speakers but not the sub.But again all the included stuff sounds very good so I don't regard this as a dealbreaker.

In addition to a passive, nonupgradeable subwoofer and the inability to use your own speaker wire (although you can use your own speakers), the unit is VERY skimpy on inputs. No HDMI passthru, and only ONE toslink/SPDIF in, and one conventional component audio in.This means that, unless you get a switch or are willing to swap out, you can only use one source other than blu-ray with which there will be "true" surround sound. This is a problem for me because my TV does not allow the SPDIF out to output any audio except for the ATSC tuner (copyright issue) and I have both a cable set top box and an xbox 360 that I want to get surround sound from.Remember, if you plug standard RCA stereo plugs into this thing you will not get real surround, just pro logic type matrix encoded stuff.

All in all, this is still a good buy. These days you can get a 42 inch lcd 1080p tv for about $1000, and you can get this system for about $1000, and you'll have a complete home theater with display, sound, and blu ray player (which is a good final standard profile player which will support all special features except bd live), all for about $2000 and no hassles. As usual with htib, you will sacrifice upgradeability and connectivity for this convenience, and you will have a passive subwoofer. But trust me, this sounds very good for htib and at this pricepoint I recommend it highly for anyone who wants the modern high def home theater experience on a limited budget, because on that, it delivers. You will really enjoy watching movies on this thing and in the end, that's all that really matters.

This receiver comes with a 6 Speakers-set (as shown); and, the sound is remarkably good.Only thing, I don't like, is that I seem to have erroneously believed the rear speakers were wireless, but so far, I have been unable to figure out how; and, folks at Samsung USA, were of no help, because they are not even aware that this Samsung theater set, is even out yet (their site, says: "It's Coming")--- seems, that Amazon.com, is among the first to have received this new Samsung product line, so far. My satellite TV engineer that installs and configures my samsung and other such products ---- is very pleased with the simplicity of this speaker system and how well it integrates with my other Samsung products via HDMI and even component hook-up.Very low cost, but excellent receiver and speakers system to use with the more modern Samsung Plasma / LCD Wide Screen HDTVs and Samsung (Samsung, for benefits of the HDMI CEC feature) or other modern components with HDMI connections. For Samsung users, there's likely no other modern 5.1 channel Stand-a-lone Receiver/speaker system of this superb quality and price, so thanks Samsung, and also thanks to Amazon.com, for being among the first to have received this new Samsung system.

Panasonic SC-BT303 Blu-ray Disc™ Home Theater Sound System Review

Panasonic SC-BT303 Blu-ray Discâ„¢ Home Theater Sound System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this system to augment a Panasonic 50" plasma television. Having listened to television speakers for years, the presence, fullness and variety of having a theater sound system is great. Turn it up a little and let the bass speaker pound and movie watching becomes totally involving. It is also fun when sounds like breaking glass move circularly around the speakers. The Blue-ray quality is excellent and you will want to immediately upgrade your Netflix account to have them send you Blue-ray instead of DVD.

The setup is easy and because it is the same brand as my television the integration was also easy. The speakers are in front, on the sides and in the back of the room. The cables were long enough for my medium sized family room. You end up with another mess of wires running around so if you are a neat freak you might want to get a wireless system.

Two small quibbles. 1) The Blue-ray player is slow to respond and it takes quite a while for it to read and start displaying movies. Since this is my first Blue-ray I don't know if it is just this machine or an issue with all of them. 2) I have not been able to configure the system so the theater speakers are automatically used when the television is turned on. You have to change it using the remote - not a big deal but can be confusing when you have to explain to someone to push the "Radio/Ext-In" button on the theater system remote until the display shows "D-IN 1".

A really good product for the price and one that you will be delighted to use when you experience the upgrade from TV speakers.

HDTV is easy. Home-Theater sound systems used to be hard but Panasonic has made it easier than pie (ready-made pie). Blu-ray extends beyond HDTV in sound. HDTV has 5.1 channel ability but Blu-Ray offers 7.1 channels. The SC-BT303 with an HDMI cableboasts seven speakers to envelop viewers in a remarkably true-to-life surround sound experience. The front and center channel speakers are made with a bamboo diaphragm which provides a tightly intertwined fiber to deliver greater rigidity and accuracy, resulting in clear reproduction of sounds over a wide frequency range, from massive explosions to metallic clangs. The subwoofer features a Kelton system with a dual diameter structure to deliver a deep powerful bass. The Smart Set-up guide uses the help of GUI navigation to allow users to set up their SC-BT303 home-theater system for optimum performance. The result is being able to stay at home while enjoying a thrilling, incredibly lifelike audio performance that rivals a movie theater. The appeal of Panasonic Blu-ray products goes beyond the breathtaking pictures and sound; the networking functions open the door to new kinds of entertainment fun. Panasonic SC-BT200 1000W 7.1 Channel Blu-ray Disc Home Theater Sound System Review

Panasonic SC-BT200 1000W 7.1 Channel Blu-ray Disc Home Theater Sound System

It's a crying shame that many people who plunk down their hard earned cash on a flat panel HDTV never bother to add a high quality sound system, or even attach a true high definition 1080i or 1080p source. Some are put off by the added expense, some by the complexity of setting it all up.Panasonic's SC-BT200 Blu-ray Home Theater system addresses all of these issues: it's inexpensive, easy to set up and offers full 1080p high definition Blu-ray playback with matching high definition surround sound. And I didn't even mention the integrated iPod dock or IPTV features!(OK, I did now).

This year's crop of Blu-ray HTiB (home theater in a box) systems from Panasonic, the SC-BT200 and its big brother the SC-BT300 have made big improvements over last year's more basic models, while lowering the cost of admission. The SC-BT200 under review here supports BD-Live (BD-ROM Profile 2.0), and offers excellent DVD upconversion as well as sweet sweet 1080p Blu-ray playback. If you like to get your content online, the built-in VIERA Cast feature allows you to view streaming videos from YouTube or Amazon, online photo albums from Picasa, stock quotes and local weather info. Also, almost unheard of at this price point, the BT200 and BT300 include on-board decoding of all the latest "HD" surround sound codecs, including multi-channel PCM, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and DTS-HD Master Audio.

And unlike similar systems from Samsung and others, the BT200 and BT300 come with 7.1 channels right out of the box for the most immersive surround experience. We were surprised how good these little speakers and their matching subwoofer sounded, considering how small they are.And in case set-up and calibration seems like too daunting a task, both systems come with color-coded speaker wires of varying length (10 feet for the fronts, 26 feet for the sides, 40 feet for the rears) to make it as easy as possible to connect all the speakers.and once they are all plugged in, you can use the included microphone and auto-calibration software to set all the speaker levels and delays automatically (it's like having a geeky friend come over with his sound meter, but without having to share your beer and pizza with him as payment).

As far as connections go, this really isn't an "A/V receiver," in fact the unit's receiver doesn't have any video inputs other than the integrated iPod dock. But if you have a Wii, PS3, XBox or HD cable or satellite box you can connect the video outputs of these to your TV directly and use one of the BT200's two analog or digital inputs for the sound. This means you can get true 5.1 or 7.1 channel surround sound from your cable, satellite or over the air HD tuners, in addition to the built in CD/DVD/Blu-ray Disc player.

If you like to carry your music and iTunes videos around with you on an iPod, you'll love the integrated iPod dock which pops right out of the center of the BT200 or BT300's faceplate. While you're listening to your iTunes or watching iTunes videos on your big screen (and controlling all the action with the BT200's remote), your iPod is replenishing its internal battery with the built-in charger. As far as iPod compatibility, the BT200 will work with pretty much any iPod other than the shuffle with its non-standard pin outs. The iPhone is not officially certified, but if you put it in "airplane" mode, it will work fine with the BT200.

The system does have some limitations: there's only so loud and so deep you can get with a sub-$500 system, and some of the video processing (including noise reduction) is weaker than in Panasonic's standalone Blu-ray players. But for its price, the BT200 offers an impressive mix of performance, features and convenience.Highly recommended!

BTW, if you want something with a little more power, the SC-BT300 offers slightly higher power output, and larger, more powerful speakers for the front left, right and center channels.

A complete review of the SC-BT200 is available on Big Picture Big Sound (dot com).

Samsung HT-C6900W Blu-Ray Home Theater System Review

Samsung HT-C6900W Blu-Ray Home Theater System

Although it's packed with features, the operation of this Samsung product is unreliable and inconsistent. I returned it after 4 weeks.

The included Wifi, wireless rear speakers and Blueray player lured me into buying this system. I used HDMI cables to connect a cable box, XBOX 360, and Panasonic flat screen TV to the Samsung receiver.

Although I updated the software and firmware, I could not consistently get sound from the speakers when I switched the input sources; unless I turned the system off and on. Also, when using the cable source, I had the same problem when switching between HD and non-HD sources.

I called Samsung a few times. However, the technical support, and "level 2" technical support was not helpful. They wanted me to mail ( at my own expense) the system to their support center. They estimated a 2-3 week turnaround time.

After 4 weeks I returned the system to the store. This system packs to much technology into the receiver. I eventually purchased a Denon system that includes Boston Acoustics speakers, and a Panasonic BlueRay player. This combination of components is working great so far.

Save yourself from a lot of frustration. Do not buy this system.

Polk Audio AM1805 SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater (Black) Review

Polk Audio AM1805 SurroundBar SDA Instant Home Theater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It gives a good bang for the buck but there were a couple of issues that I had with it.Firstly, it is very easy to setup and install which is a plus. The wireless sub fits conveniently anywhere in a room and provides a nice bass.Where is the remote?Where are the directions? These things were not in the box.I am guessing the remote wasn't supposed to be there. It took me a few days to figure out that when you turn the tv off and on the sound bar will automatically sense input from the TV and then turn itself on without having to manually press the power button which is nice. But I would have liked to have read that in a manually and not figure it out for myself.Overall I love the simplicity that this system provides and combined with good performance I would recommend it to someone who doesn't want to hassle with a big surround system but wants something a little extra in the sound department.

EDIT:I was able to find directions online that show you how to synch it to any universal remote.I also found my directions under the couch after a few weeks.Guess I should have looked more.Overall this is a great system for a small to medium room.A must have for those weak speakers that come with your tv.

Average Reviews:

Pros

*Has the latest HD Decoders for Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio (lossless audio for bluray movies).
*HDMI passes through sound, therefore no need for extra audio cables (unlike the HT-S5200)
*Sound gets very loud, but maintains clarity. Bass response, tonal balance, dynamic range are very good.
*Several listening modes that enhance your experience (Virualize stereo sound into surround sound, i.e. DTS Neo:6)
*IPOD dock included. This is normally a seperate item to purchase. Get more use out of your IPOD.
*Quality product all around, solidly built.Sleek piano black finish for the speakers. Receiver, clean and simple. Not too large or heavy either, unlike past Onkyo HTIBs.
*Affordable! (Amazon had the cheapest price, plus free shipping, plus no tax!)

Cons

*Does not upconvert sigals to 1080P.Therefore, if your Nintendo Wii displays 480P, then this receive will not upconvert and you will still see 480P.
*Does not convert analog signal to digital.Basically, does not convert component signal to HDMI.Therefore, if you have a component connection like an old DVD player, you will need to install component out to the TV as well. You cannot connect all connections to this reciever, and have them output through the HDMI. No conversion between signal types.Component in/Compononet out, HDMI in/HDMI out, Composite in/Composite out.
*Remote control is average at best, which is to be expected. Currently working with Onkyo support to use remote as universal remote for all components.I just dont want to invest in an expensive universal remote :-)

Additions

*Bought my own speaker wire and speaker stands from [...].Very cheap, good quality products.
*Ran speakerwire under carpet and baseboards.Suprisingly, very clean, although its not the most ideal.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.I recommend this to everyone is looking to install a quality HTIB, that sounds as good as more expensive custom systems.Of course, you can get better sound, but you maybe paying three to four times more. Therefore, for the price and features, you are getting a great value.Five stars.
