Having just purchased a pair of La Scala II front channels with Heresy II back channels I find the La Scala's truly amazing. My sound system has all the depth, dynamic range and feeling I could possible want.Truly incredible, friends who have purchased stuff from a local manufacturer (I live in MA) come to my house for a real home theater experience and my Klipsch system delivers, my receiver, in cinema DSP mode, delivers 60% of my sound comes through the front channels and the La Scala's deliver with a thundering clarity that can be felt as well as heard.

The La Scala delivers pure spatial sound and emotion, with a touching realism that is unrivaled by anything else I have ever heard. From HT applications to old Patsy Cline recordings, they deliver in a way I never thought possible.

They are worth every penny and then some, I never thought sound could be reproduced like this.

Product Description:
When the La Scala first launched in 1963, audio pioneer Paul W. Klipsch made it for Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Winthrop Rockefeller to use as a public address speaker. Because some considered it a "portable and more affordable version of the revolutionary Klipschorn(R), the La Scala found success beyond the campaign. Despite its raw, unfinished appearance, the fully horn-loaded, three-way La Scala sounded so good people still wanted to put it in their living rooms. Remaining virtually unchanged since those early campaign days, Klipsch decided to cosmetically improve the raw-looking La Scala by making it available in a variety of high-quality wood veneer finishes, including cherry, walnut and black ash. The La Scala II also has a grille to cover the mid and high frequency horns. The bass horn cabinet walls are now constructed of 1-inch thick MDF rather than ¾-inch plywood to offer more support, decrease resonance and deliver cleaner bass response. Even though the La Scala II adopts a more finished appearance, it still delivers the same sparkling highs, extreme output and unsurpassed low distortion bass response as the original design. It also continues to utilize the same horn-loaded drivers as the Klipschorn, making it highly efficient and able to produce high volumes consuming very little power and undetectable distortion.

Klipsch Reference Series RS52 Surround Speaker (EACH) Review

Klipsch Reference Series RS52 Surround Speaker
Average Reviews:

I am using these Klipsch RS-52 on sides along with Klipsch RC-62 Center, RB-61 Fronts, Synergy S1 front highs & backs with a still working superbly 10yr old Definitive Technology 12" 700watt Sub Woofer and a new Onkyo NR807 Receiver for a 9.1 setup in a 22' X 12' living room setup system longways.

The RS-52 picks up all kinds of sound effects watching movies that would by comparison have a muffled & stifled sound with just a ordinary 'surround back' type speakers.Works excellent watching Football, Hockey, etc.I was given a demo of the RS-42 at a local electronics retailer but they did not have those in stock and gave me the RS-52 at the RS-42 price (one lucky day). The RS-52 have 5 1/4" woofers, RS-62 have 6 1/2" woofers and RS-42 have 4" woofers. The difference between the models for the sides is basically the BOOM & SPATIAL EFFECT especially watching movies and Music DVD Concerts depending how you set your audio setting on your receiver. I would have been satisfied with the RS-42 model in my small living room but even yet would notice the difference. It is just a bigger fuller sound with the higher model you go up.Just make sure your fronts and center match specs to a degree. My RB-61 Fronts have 6 1/2" and RC-62 Center 6 1/2" woofers.

I first had these setup at ear level but read the actual Manual that came with it which instructed to put them 5' to 7' above the ground so they are set over your head while sitting down.I got a total theater immersion experience when setting them up that way. Before when they were at ear level, they were good, but more acute rather then immersible.I would twist my head to the speaker at ear level when hearing a funky special effect sound but when setting them above head level will notice surround sounds but similar to when you go to the theater. It doesn't distract you, rather aids in the over all surround sound experience. The sides with be the most effective surround sound speaker you will have in comparison the Front High, Wide or Backs so the extra cost\quality ratio you spend on the sides is important.Indeed, if you are doing a 5.1 setup, get the sides rather than backs for your surround sound speakers.

These sides are sold as singles and not pairs no matter what model you decide upon, so make sure you budget and buy a quantity of 2.

Exclusive Tractrix(R) Horns have always been the key component of the Reference Series. In the RS-52, this technology has been refined to include improved throat geometry for a more genuine, lifelike sound. Behind the speaker's dual horns lie 1-inch titanium tweeters with powerful neodymium magnet motor structures to provide a unique combination of precision, clarity and effortless dynamics. The RS-52 employs dual 5.25-inch woofers for a solid bass foundation. These Cerametallic(TM) woofers with inverted copper dust caps exhibit a very high stiffness-to-mass ratio and superb damping characteristics. Klipsch Wide Dispersion Surround Technology(TM) (WDST) provides crystal-clear sonic detail even in listening areas with less than ideal configurations. The Tractrix Horns deliver a 90-degree wide by 60-degree high dispersion pattern. By aligning two horns at 90-degrees with respect to each other, WDST smoothly covers a 180-degree horizontal arc. In other words, the surround sound is pointed at you no matter where you are seated. While increased baffle ribbing around the horn mouth dramatically improves acoustics across the sonic range, the crossover utilizes Klipsch custom internal wiring and the finest components to provide signal purity and perfect driver integration.

I'm a adult male who has been around stereos and speakers since the late 60's and presently own 3 systems.I have always said I would never buy speakers without hearing them.I broke my rule and purchased the Klipsch AW-650's, based on research and reviews, and am really regretting it.I can't say they sound bad on the contrary they are really clear and crisp but they seem to have no bass.Even adding bass doesn't help. They just can't reproduce much bass.If you don't want to add some subs to your pair of $500+ speakers I would look at other alternatives.I suggest listen before you buy these speakers.

I purchased my pair of Klipsch RF-83 Speakers approx. 1 year ago and shortly after wards noticed a very small indentation when the lighting was directed towards the speakers in a particular angle.I contacted the Klipsch Company and without hesitation they shipped and paid all expenses of the shipping and also the return of the speaker with the very small indentation.Afterwards Klipsch consumer relations department kept in close contact with concern that I was satisfied with everything else pertaining with my purchase of my Klipsch speakers. The deep rich quality of the highs and lows that these speakers produce is nothing short of incredible. I can either turn the volume very low or direct most of the power from my 130 watts per channel onkyo receiver with no distortion or loss of sound quality, in short these speakers are an awesome investment, and I'm completely satisfied with their performance that exceed my expectations that I would expect from the Klipsch Company.

Product Description:
Hope your movie dialogue is good because with the flagship Reference Series RC-64 center channel you're going to hear every word of it. Designed to be one of the most unique and powerful center channels on the market, this amazing speaker is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Exclusive Tractrix(R) Horns have always been the key component of this critically acclaimed series. In the RC-64, this technology has been refined to include improved throat geometry for a more genuine, lifelike sound. Behind the horn lies a professional-grade 1.25-inch titanium diaphragm compression driver to provide a unique combination of precision, clarity and effortless power. The RC-64 employs four 6.5-inch high-output woofers for a solid bass foundation. These Cerametallic(TM) woofers with inverted copper dust caps exhibit a very high stiffness-to-mass ratio and superb damping characteristics. Klipsch Tapered Array(TM) technology operates all of the woofers at the lowest frequencies - maintaining the high output capability necessary for good center channel performance - but only two operate all the way through the midrange to where the tweeter takes over. This eliminates acoustic interference between the woofer outputs, a flaw in conventional speaker designs that can severely impair sound quality at the sides of the listening area. The RC-64's sealed cabinet offers improved internal cross-bracing to minimize panel vibrations that can color sound. Make sure you really consider that the footprint of this speaker is 12" deep, about 24 inches left to right, and it weighs over 30 pounds!I mean really plan where exactly you plan to put this thing because it is a monster of a center, especially if you are used to 5.25 inch woofers or smaller units..I will add that If you want True, clear, sound that can be heard even in lower volumes and wont be drowned out by large Front speakers this is the one for you, but the other reviewer hit the nail on the head when he suggested that if your Sub is decent, the cost vs. benefit of the 6.5 inch woofers over the 5.25" ones in the RC52 is not worth it, In fact I would say that unless you intend on playing music through your center channel,go with the 52 which has the same Tractix Horn and clean Dialog from the quality reference crossovers.

Klipsch La Scala II Three-Way Horn-Loaded Loudspeaker, Subwoofer, and 2-Inch Composite Cone (Single, Walnut) Review

Klipsch La Scala II Three-Way Horn-Loaded Loudspeaker, Subwoofer, and 2 inch Composite Cone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned a pair of La Scalas for over 30 years, and they are still going strong with no loss of sound quality. This is the only pair of speakers you will want or need in your lifetime.

Amplifiers

McIntosh stack
Yamaha 2020 (30 years old and still outstanding)
Pioneer Elite top of the line 5.1 receiver
New 7.1 Elite I will be hooking up over 2009 Christmas break

Sources

Originally I used Tandberg and Nakamichi tape decks, Revox B77 reel to reel and a Thorens TD MKII top of the line turn table.

With the advent of digitally recorded, digitally remastered CDs and universally good CD-DVD players I have moved exclusively to CDs and Radio for source.

Pros

* Incredibly efficient, minimizing or eliminating amplifier distortion.
* Inaudible distortion at any volume up to and including ears bleeding.
* Unsurpassed tonal quality which is most evident on digitally recorded classical music. A good quality Phillips digitally mastered recording will move you to tears. Every instrument and every note is clear, precise, accurate and easily discernible.
* No need for a sub-woofer with the 15 inch woofers which accurately reproduce the instruments instead of a dull undefined thumping noise.
* Punch, with the right amp and music the punch these can deliver with crisp accuracy is astounding.
* Easy on the ears, with no distortion and accurate reproduction of the source, you can listen to these speakers all day with no ear fatigue.

Cons

* The only con (which isn't one for me) is size. You will need approximately 24 x 24 footprint space in two corners of the room to maximize the quality of the sound. The urge to place something on top of the speakers will in the end prove irresistible. When the speakers are delivered, measure them carefully and purchase two smoked glass tops (tempered if you are worried about the kids breaking the glass), have the glass company round and polish the edges of the glass and mount it with at least 6 felt pads, 2 in the center area, on the bottom that wont stick to the wood.

If you are standing these on a wooden or tile floor, I suggest that you purchase a good quality carpet to fit under them like a good plush door mat, for sound isolation.

If you are placing these down the basement, you can buy black cabinet dollies at you local music store that sells amplified guitars and band supplies. I like the dollies because you can move the speakers easily for cleaning, vacuuming or re-arranging, one person can't lift a speaker.

Do not place these directly on a basement floor which will wick moisture into the speakers and cause rot and rust. Be sure to use a de-humidifier allowing no more than 50% humidity, 40% is optimal. If you don't like the black dolly look, build some wooden platforms with 2 x 10s and 3/4 furniture plywood on the top, sand them and stain them dull flat black. Use screen bead or half round on the edges of the plywood for a more finished look.

If you don't have a high end miter saw, cut the front 2x10 for the full 24-26 inches across the front, have the sides run to the back and place a 22-24 inch piece on the back to hide the seams. A good lumber yard will make all of the cuts for you including using 4x4 plint blocks so you can place all of the screws on the inside.

Plan B, for a professional look, go to your local cabinet maker and pay them a couple of hundred dollars to make the stands for you including staining them black.

* Buying a used pair of La Scalas typically means finding a pair that has outlived their first owner, no one sells these while the can still breath. When you can find a used pair, they are typically 20-30 years old and still in excellent working condition.

Stereo and 5.1 or 7.1 Surround sound

After a lengthy discussion with a Klipsch factory consultant, if you want to use the La Scalas as part of a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker configuration, this is what you will need:

* 2 La Scalas in front $6000
* 2 or 4 Klipsch Heresys for the rear and side $1500 to $3000
* 1 Klipsch Heresy for the center speaker $750

Klipsch Heresy III Three-Way Horn-Loaded Loudspeaker with 12-Inch Subwoofer (Walnut)

Use this set up for a few months, then decide if you really need or want a sub woofer. It will be hard to find a sub woofer with the quality or detail of the La Scalas. This is a better speaker system than you will find in any theater.

Note: Used Heresys I, II, III can be found since a lot more of them were sold than the La Scalas and Corner Horns. As always, buyer beware that the guts of the speakers are in fact Klipsch original parts not cheapo after market replacements for blown speakers.

Your flat panel TVs will come and go, your Klipsch Speakers will be around long after you have left the building.

(More customer reviews)
In my pursuit of audiophile quality nirvana, after going through many name brand speakers over the years, the Axioms have hit the mark ! Here are the reasons, and not just technical ones.

First, let me say that Axiom is an audiophile speaker manufacturing company based in Canada that has been in the business for a little over 20 years(they are definitely not a generic no-name brand to Canadians and those of us in America who are able to obtain these wonderful speakers).Their well designed and thought out website is rich in product visuals, technical and ordering information. While you will NOT see or be able to hear any Axiom speakers at your local home electronic big box retailers here in the U.S. the only thing you can do is look for reviews on the internet;reviews from top audio critics and purchasers praising the high end quality of these babies! Axiom's customer service offers a wonderful 30 day try-it-and -return-it-if-you-don't-like-it policy (of course sans shipping cost). Their customer service is excellent and extremely knowledgeable in any questions or concerns you may have from purchasing to technical inquiries(you're not communicating with sales reps just out to make a fast buck or commission---you are treated like a person)! Their sales and service dept. staff keep you immediately informed of when your order has shipped out as well as online tracking information. If you have any problems or concerns they can also be reached via toll free number. You also receive a friendly e-mail acknowledgement that receipt of your order shipment/arrival is completed.

The next remarkable aspect of the Axiom family of speakers are the audiophile budget minded prices. The old cliche "bang for the buck" is tried and true with Axiom. There are no hidden additional handling costs or inflated prices to give that "air" of elite snootiness ("Hey, if I spend thousands of dollars on these speakers, I must be getting what I paid for and that makes me special...").Their prices all across the board, from their entry level speakers to their tower speaker line, are very reasonable if not surprisingly inexpensive!

Now, how do the M3ti Axioms perform? Without getting too technical, they are musical sounding when they should be and can also reproduce dvd surround sound effects with astounding accuracy, realism and ease.I have used both analog and digital sources and have found the clarity and detail to be very satisfactory and even surprising at times. What's amazing is the size of the cabinet enclosures. As Yoda would probably say,"Size matters not !"---and he's right. However, laws of physics and sound dictate that in order to really get the most out of the listening experience is to mate these with a subwoofer. On their own, they still reveal remarkable highs and mids and an acceptable level of bass. With or without a sub, the real test is to just close your eyes and LISTEN ! The stereo imaging is impeccable. The mids and highs are smooth, but not too neutral or warm, or dull sounding. The titanium tweeters offer a silky rich characteristic but nothing to give you ear fatigue. The midrange is a bit punchy(but by no means artificial or overemphasized) and well pronounced (at times I felt like I was listening to a 3-way speaker system)! When placed on a pair of speaker stands, the music floats in the air and never is there any hint that the sound is coming from a pair of small boxes; due to the special wedge-shaped design this practically eliminates that "boxy" cabinet resonating sound found in cheaper made speakers. The sub I am currently using is a Velodyne CHT8. All three speaker units integrate seamlessly. I often forget I'm listening to a couple of shelf speakers and a sub. The sound quality is more like a couple of mid sized floor units! There is no sonic strain that I could detect when playing them loud. One must also keep in mind that loud is not necessarily a trait of audiophile quality; they must also be able to reproduce the most subtle and minute nuances as well with great clarity and detail. The M3ti's accomplish this very well indeed.I can leave the room and walk into the kitchen or another adjacent room and the clarity can be heard versus a muffled sound from other lesser speakers. There is no colored or saturated sound as many other speaker companies try to introduce into their bookshelves to make them sing like tower speakers---those often end up having a very "phony" sonic quality. With the Axiom M3ti's,classical guitar strings have that natural and crisp "plucking" and airy characteristic along with the proper acoustical characteristics that emanate from such an instrument (same for a harp). Bongos and congas present themselves with such vividness (you can almost see the peformer tapping or pounding on them and hear their finger tips and palms striking the skins). Female vocals are very natural and soothing(I could hear words pronounced so crytal clear , even ending consonants on words that with my old speakers used to roll off or just cut off and disappear). I'm hearing details I never heard before.Period. Male vocals may have a little thinness to them but not enough to make a major difference or to detract from the overall grand musical presentaion.

The looks (from four wood veneer colors to choose from to special color customization), the sound quality all speak in volumes (no pun intended) of the technological thought, design, detail, and craftsmanship that has gone into the Axioms.I personally chose the Mansfield Beech with black grills; I love the black and light wood contrast;it blends in very well with my surrounding rustic furniture.I really deliberated for awhile between the Beech veneer and the Boston Cherry (the BC has a very elegant and expensive look, but nothing I have furniture or decor-wise would match). There is a much lighter wood color, I believe maple, but it reminded me of a piece of furniture that still needs to be stained and worked on---it just looked "unfinished" to me.Anybody who appreciates high end sound but says they don't care what the speakers look like is lying; Once you look at the complete Axiom line, they have a very classy and appealing look that should suit and satisfy anyone's home furnishings and decor. There's an overall contemporary elegance to their cabinet designs.Again, The prices are affordable. This is an awesome message that conveys to people desiring a step up into the world of audiophile quality speakers that you don't have to break the piggy bank or dip into the kids' college fund. Shipping is via Fed Ex to most states and is very fast---my speakers arrived from Canada to Arizona in 2-3 days tops ! These have definitely more than just wet my appetite; In time, I will also look forward to purchasing their tower speakers as well. I went out on a limb and solely ordered these based on glowing reviews from both sound critics and customer reviews praising the Axioms and am not at all disappointed.Buying the Axiom M3ti speakers is a win-win situation !

I have owned Heresy's since 1975, in 1985 I bought the Heresy II's and this year I bought the Heresy III's, they just keep getting better, they have a full presence and spatial displacement like nothing else in their price class.I got 20 years out of my last pair, this pair, probably the same, the handcrafted quality is apparent, the sound, even at low volumes is incredibly clear.

I kid you not folks, I am a Klipshophile, and for my "man cave" there are always a pair of Heresy's, the is no better crafted or sounding speaker for the money (albeit a lot) and few speakers at any price that can stand next to these wonderful speakers. As an aside, I always go with the Oiled Walnut.

Product Description:
Klipsch Heritage Series Speakers are priced individually but sold only as matched pairs. Avoid delays by ordering in groups of two. First introduced in 1957, the Heresy, a three-way design, started out as a compact center channel speaker to accompany the Klipschorn(R) in three-speaker stereo arrays. In 1985, Klipsch made some changes and improvements to this model and re-released it as the Heresy II. Today, Klipsch has given the new Heresy III a bi-wire network, titanium diaphragm tweeter and larger magnet assembly. The midrange has moved from a phenolic to a titanium diaphragm. All of these changes result in improved tonal balance and increased output. In fact the Heresy III is two decibels louder (96 to 98dB), improving on its already high sensitivity. In addition to delivering smooth, dynamic and low distortion sound, the Heresy III is available in a high-quality cherry, walnut or black ash wood veneer finish. It also ships with a slant riser that can be removed for cabinet installations. Because of its relatively compact size, this model offers the greatest degree of placement flexibility in the Heritage Series line.

Wharfedale MovieStar 70 Surround Sound Speaker System (Beech) Review

I wanted a home theater speaker system, that was good with movies and music too! I listened to Polk 6700 speakers (very good) JBL 160 (nice) Energy 5.2 (very nice) Athena (ok+) and Wharfedale Movie Star 70's (awesome)! The biggest difference was the music end of the spectrum! All of the mentioned systems were very good to excellent for movie/tv viewing, but ranged from good, to adequate, to so-so on music! Except the Wharfedales, which were excellent for theater use, and awesome on music, probably due to the fact they are a bit larger than most! No tubby lower midrange, or ear bleeding, thin highs! Bass was rendered very well too! A great value, and they are decor freindly.

Wharfedale's Moviestar 70 subwoofer-satellite speaker system offers a no-compromise solution for those who seek a small, tidy loudspeaker package, but refuse to tolerate the inadequate sound traditionally found in such systems. The Moviestar 70 combines chic retro styling in a package of loudspeakers with modest dimensions. But despite their diminutive size, these stars of the silver screen pack plenty of punch when it comes to home cinema. Speakers as small as these are made possible by the system's powered subwoofer, which fills in the bass below about 80 Hz. Further, the subwoofer is still effective when hidden from view.
The package includes all the speakers you need. The four satellites are front-ported, single-way units that dispense with crossovers, which can cause phase and frequency problems in two-way and three-way speakers. The frequency-matched subwoofer has all the features you'd expect of any subwoofer, such as phase and crossover adjustment. All fixings are supplied to allow wall or ceiling mounting, and plenty of cable is included for easy installation.
What's in the Box
Four satellite speakers, center channel speaker, subwoofer, speaker cable, mounting brackets, user's manual.

Klipsch SW-450 10-Inch 450watt Subwoofer (Black) Review

Klipsch SW-450 10 inch 450watt Subwoofer

I am a frequent poster over at the AVSForum and most people in their will absolutely tell you that HSU, SVS, etc. are better subs than Klipsch. While that may be true, there are some of us that support our local B&M stores or prefer the convenience of being able to get in the car and return it and be back out the door with a new one within an hour. I am one of those people who likes the ease of B&M stores.

Initially I had a Martin Logan Dynamo 500 and it sounded great, except for the fact that it couldn't get the couch shaking before bottoming out. The ML was very musical, but for Home Theater use it just didn't do the trick. My BluRay test for subwoofer extension is the pixar shorts, Jack Jack Attack (where the baby does CAMPFIRE) and Lifted (where the man is first being lifted before he bumps into the wall). The ML made clapping noises during both of these scenes which clued me in that this wasn't the sub for me.

I took it back and got the Klipsch SW-450 at my local B&M store. I took it home and plugged in Transformers Revenge of the Fallen and it sounded pretty good. I then went to my test BluRay Pixar shorts scenes and I was happy that it didn't bottom out. It didn't have the musical punch that I had with the ML, but it extended low without bottoming out and that was good enough for me.

Having been a basshead most of my life, I knew that the sub would need some burn in time before sounding it's best so I played some 120hz down to 25hz test sweeps for about two days while I was away at work. I went back to my same test BluRay Pixar scenes and I was amazed at something...not only could I hear the bass, I could feel the low tones that aren't audible. I was absolutely impressed with this. Still I felt it was missing the punch of the ML so I moved it from one corner to the opposite and sure enough that corner gave me the punch I wanted. Unfortunately it also took away the feeling of the lower HZ frequencies.

My options were have it in corner for music and the other for home theater. This isn't very realistic so I decided that I loved the SW-450 so much that I would just buy another one which would even out the bass response in my home theater. I can say that two are better than one and I can hear, feel and be mesmerized by the bass these two put out. The speaker is well built and the amplifier is a Class D 450W MAX and 200W RMS.

If your on the fence about the Klipsch, take an opportunity to hear for yourself and decide if it's for you. If not you can always return it and buy one from and ID, but at least give it a listen!!!

It is not often something designed and manufactured over 60 years ago can stand the test of time. The Klipsch horn is one of them (others that come to mind are the Fender Telecaster, Stratocaster, Porsche 911, etc.)

The nice thing about the Khorn is it tucks neatly into the corners of your room. The speakers may be big, but they don't take away from the living space. They sound fabulous! They have some of the best imaging of any speakers I have ever heard (even the Jubilee)...the bands instruments and singer are easily located in the listening field. It is as if you are at the concert! In fact better since you can control the volume and program. I have run the Khorns with a cheap Denon AV receiver all the way up to a McIntosh tube amp. All sounded terrific.

Another nice thing about the Khorn is that they can be updated. Say you have a pair manufactured in 1960...they can be brought up to 2009 specs by changing a couple of drivers and adding new crossovers. These are things someone can easily do if they are handy with a screwdriver. That is like taking a 1963 Porsche 911 and bringing it up to 2009 specs for far less than a new one! Name another product on the market that you can do that!

Having kicked around with the audio hobby since the 1950's and known about "the mighty Klipschorn" by reputation since then, finally at the age of 61 I purchased a new pair of them in 2003 (list $7500, I got them for $6500) plus a new Belle Klipsch in '04 to use as a center channel.

Yes, the Klipschorns are big but are surprisingly unobtrusive when snuggled back into their corners as they should be.The sight of the handsome Klipschorns + Belle array together begets audiophile-reverence before even hearing them. But yes also, the Klipschorns are idiosyncratic, "idiosyncratic" being defined as their being merciless in showing up program- and amplifier imperfections and deficiencies.

The Klipschorns are VERY amplifier sensitive.I have run them with at least four home theater receivers, three of which, the newer models, were designed to feed an external powered subwoofer. The fourth, a vintage-1990 obsolescent Pioneer Pro-Logic receiver (VSX-5700X) does not have a powered subwoofer output. To make a long story short, with the three newer amps the Klipschorns sounded lousy, very clear and precise but with no or nil bass, very thin sounding.Reaction:"I paid $6500.00 for THIS?!"

But with the old Pioneer, holy cow!The Klipschorns BLOOMED.Tight pure deep effortless bass like you would not believe, and fine solid crystal-clear sound and imaging all the way up the spectrum.Same speakers, same room but what a difference. It was dramatically and instantly noticeable.

Since the old Pro-Logic Pioneer drives the center channel with only a synthesized signal of approximately AM-radio quality, the Belle is underfulfilled so to speak, but still anchors the center soundstage nicely.I'm happy.

Klipsch Icon X Series XL-23 LCR speaker (Individual) Review

We were redoing our audio/video equipment after upgrading our HD TV and chose to replace our front speakers and the center channel. At the audio store they played action videos as well as musical concerts for us to hear a variety sounds/music. We made a preliminary choice, but had second thoughts. I went back with a movie featuring dialog since the center channel bears the main load for this. We asked them to isolate the center channel speakers only. It totally changed our pick. This speaker (played laying on its side - it is designed to go either way) reproduced voice most crisply among the choices under $500. We then tried a concert featuring classical guitar and again it was the hands down best choice. Excellent at both tasks. We trusted our ears not data. By the way, our front speaker choice is a pair of Definitive Technologies Studio Monitor 350's. Another great choice for the under $500 price point.Definitive Technology StudioMonitor 350 Speakers (Pair, Black)

Klipsch SW-350 8-Inch 350 Watt Subwoofer (Black) Review

All my adult life I've had a hometheater system, but never with a sub like this. I've had Sony, Kenwood, Bose but none of the subs these systems came with compare to KLIPSCH. Not only can you hear it, but you can feel it. I have a 7 year old and 3 year old, both boys and they love movies. I played Iron Man in HD, the boys came running the minute the first scene with the explosion occurred. That is when my TV room along with my house started shaking and this is only an 8 inch sub! I've had 12 inch subs (Kenwood and Sony) both were loud, but you couldnt really feel the power like you do with Klipsh. Our entire family loves to watch movies, we had movie Fridays, but with this new sound system I got at Amazon (Onkyo receiver, Polk Audio surround bar 50) we watch movies 3 sometimes 4 times a week. Love this sub!!!!

This must be part of some marketer's plan - and (sad to say) it succeeded: We thought the price was for a pair, and after having heard them at a B&M store had definitely settled on them as part of our upgrade to the (formerly) stereo system we were busy moving out of the 80's. Ordered what we thought was 1 pair, got 1 speaker, thought about it, decided we still wanted them (at the expense of putting off / potentially canceling more of the upgrade) and ordered another 1 speaker.
We definitely love the sound (these augment some Klipsch Forte speakers we've had for years, and also love). We've learned not to assume - if it doesn't say "pair" it probably isn't.

Product Description:
Designed specifically for surround use in home theater applications, the R-5650-S employs a 6.5-inch Cerametallic(TM) woofer and dual 1-inch titanium compression drivers. Because of its patented horn array, which is two vertically stacked Tractrix(R) Horn-loaded tweeters pointing in opposite directions, the R-5650-S outperforms conventional designs by maximizing diffusion, clarity and efficiency, while minimizing room interactions that blur sonic detail. The R-5650-S draws listeners into the middle of the action through the use of Klipsch's proprietary Wide Dispersion Surround Technology or WDST(TM). The careful alignment of the two controlled-directivity Tractrix Horn tweeters, angled opposite of one another, yields an incredibly wide dispersion pattern. Able to function in any standard wall, ceiling or drop ceiling, the R-5650-S can be paired with the Klipsch IK-650-W installation kit (sold separately). This revolutionary kit design incorporates a mud ring, breakaway wire tie and color-coded brackets for easy speaker size identification. It also includes perforated metal wings that easily fasten to the studs via screws, staples or nails. Painted white for easy marking and placement, these metal wings can be folded around the edge of the studs if necessary.

This speakers are nothing short of amazing, for the price they offer tremendous clarity and rock-solid bass. If you're looking for affordable hi-fi towers then look no more, this can rival much more expensive speakers and are a breeze to drive. Being extremely "sensitive" (96dB @ 2.83V / 1m) they can produce large amounts of sound with a relatively low amount of power (ideal if you wish to pair them with "true hi-fi" amps that are expensive when they break the 60 watt mark).

As for the sound goes, these speakers have sparkling highs that are effortlessly spread across the listening area thanks to the horn-loaded titanium dome tweeters. Midrange is vibrant, very present and smooth. Bass is accurate, fast and even earth-shattering. Stereo Imaging is very, very good, for the price is just marvelous; it's not pin-point accurate when compared to much more expensive speakers but for the price is fantastic. They have the ability to perform bass-intensive music with ease and are capable of resolving sonically stressing musical passages with not much effort. Expect these to suit almost every musical needs; from bass-crazy electronic music, to smooth, classical nuances and heavy metal, they will perform superbly.

The cons: even though this isn't exactly the speaker's fault, the horn-loaded tweeters can expose any roughness in the recording, some music suffering from the "loudness war" or that is poorly recorded might sound odd with these floorstanders. Also, their rear-firing port can be tad painful, since it needs at least 25-30 cms (9-11inches) to function perfectly. Owned these for almost a year now and those are the only complaints I have for now.

Amp recommendations: These speakers are really nice, Klipsch made a terrific job here, so please don't go cheap on the amplification. If you wish to go for "big" brands like Maratanz, Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha go ahead, they'll work, but I seriously recommend you look in the grounds of NAD, Rotel, Arcaim, etc. as they WILL sound much, much better. Since they can produce huge amounts of sound with relatively low wattage, true hi-fi amps (which usually don't roam the 100+ watts area, however, anywhere from 40 to 100 watts will do here) are a better way to go. I have a 40watt per channel NAD C315BEE and the whole setup sounds plain awesome, if you wish to go higher and can afford it, do it, the sound will usually increase a bit.

Overall, these speakers are fantastic for the price, as far as sub $600 floorstanders go this are amongst the best. If you wish great sound, earthshattering bass, 'crisp' highs, and lovely vocals then look no more, buy em' you wont regret em'.
