Sony SSF-7000 Floor-Standing 4-way Speaker with 8" Woofer (Pair) Review

Sony SSF-7000 Floor-Standing 4-way Speaker with 8' Woofer
Average Reviews:

Purchased and Received these speakers just a couple days ago.The free shipping was great considering the weight of the speakers.

They are great! No complaints here.I was upgrading from my original aiwa speakers (made by sony) in my home entertainment system. The difference is amazing.Highs mids and lows are all great.I always recommend a powered sub woofer, I do have one. However, if you get these speakers you can get by without one.

My listening interests are varied.I have listened to Kiss, ELO, The Hollies, Peter Frampton, Supertramp and some classical on these speakers so far.I have also viewed a couple movies using them. All sounded great."Do You, (Feel Like I Do) sounded GREAT!All the ELO was crisp, clean and clear. The only "booming," as mentioned in the other review, that I heard was while listening to "Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress" by the Hollies. However, it did appear to be a bass sound that was appropriate with the song, not anything abnormal. But then again, it may just be different taste.

Oh, and the picture shows the speaker as looking more of a grey than black. They are black, not the grey like the picture shows.that is good since my tv and all my entertaiment system units are all black.

My advice is you cannot go wrong with these. If anything changes I will update.

Klipsch Reference Series RF-82 - Left / right channel speaker - (EACH) Review

Klipsch Reference Series RF-82 - Left / right channel speaker -
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My RF-82 pair serve as a stand-alone units for music listening (I also have a Klipsch HD-1000 set up in a smaller area for watching video).

The receiver, a Denon 830, is located in the video room about 50 feet away, but even with that long cable run the RF-82s are capable of filling the whole house with sound. The RF-82 is remarkably more efficient than previous speakers I've had in the same location (Altec Model 9, Bose 501, and an amazing but doomed pair of KEF 107s, victims of six months of humid isolation following the levee failures in 2005).The KEFs had particularly crisp and strong bass, as would be expected with twin 12" drivers mounted in massive towers, but to my surprise I found the RF-82s to be both stronger and flatter, especially with extreme low end sources such as orchestral bass drum and pipe organs. These speakers even revealed previously undetected nuance in the "All Things Considered" theme song.

Reviews and forum postings have no shortage of praise for the RF-82's ability with electronic and rock music, or as part of home theater system. But here the primary diet of my RF-82s is old-fashioned 2-channel orchestral and vocal material, and I am thrilled with the sound.Highs are sharp, as I expected from experience with other Klipsch products, but I was pleasantly surprised by the clarity across mid-ranges.The sense of placement with stereo material is remarkable.A listener can pick out a singer at "1:30" and not just "somewhere to the right".I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the remixed Beatles catalog sounds great coming through them.

I would have liked to have heard these speakers side-by-side with the RF-63 and -83's, but I had neither the time nor budget.

Polk Audio LSi15 Right Channel Tower Speaker (Single, Cherry) Review

I recentlyy upgraded my Denon 2301 5.1 receiver to the Denon 4310Ci 7.1 and wanted to upgraded the entire speaker set, except for the Velodyne sub woofer. There are many choices available for the $5K price range. My overall goal was to have all matching speakers and they must sound good for both movies and music.I read many reviews and listened to several brands; B&W, Kilpse, Definitive Tech, Vieanna Acustics and Polks RTi and LSi series.Ultimately I selected the Polk LSi for it performance, looks, and cost.

The 7.1 speaker setup I selected are Polk LSi15 for fronts, LSi9 for front wide, LSiC for center, and LSi7 for rear surround. All of these speakers were purchased from Amazon except the LSi15.I originally purchased the LSi15 from [...] through Amazon but had to return them because it was not new as it was stated. The LSi15 were purchased from OneCall which turns out to be a vey good internet supplier like Amazon.

The sound of this LSi 7.1 surround setup is just awesome and it sounds great for both moovies and music.Great imaging and depth for the LSi15, Lsi9, and LSi7.Each of these sets were evaluated as stereo pairs first in my setup and as the speaker size increased so did the sound of the base of course. The LSi15 being the best on the bass end versus the LSi7.The LSi9 are very good and could be a good choice for fronts also, with sub woofer.

The sound from these speakers for movies and music video is just amazing, all blending in seamlessly.Try the Chris Botti or the Kenny G latest music video in Blue Ray.Chris Bottis music video is recorded in 7.1, the video and sound through my LSi setup is just like you are almost there.I've also played my older CD recordings to compare with my existing SARA front speakers and the LSi15 just sound so much better.

Overall I'm very happy with my purchase of the Polk Audio LSi speakers, LSi15, LSi9, LSi7, and LSC centers. They all blend together in both looks and sound. The speaker finish the sonic quaility of these Polk Audio LSi offer a great performance for the cost, best bang for my buck!

() Premier Acoustic PA-8F Tower Speakers - Black Review

() Premier Acoustic PA-8F Tower Speakers - Black
Average Reviews:

I purchased the Premier Acoustic PA-8F Titanium speakers to replace the front/main speakers in my home theater system. I had previously purchased the Premier Acoustic PA-12W subwoofer and (4) PA-6S surround speakers. I am still using a different brand of center channel speaker. After the break-in period, the PA-8F speakers really livened up my living room. With the cherry finish cabinets, they compliment my decor as well. Using stereo music source, the stereo imaging was so perfect I had to check my center channel speaker to make sure the sound was not coming through that. Since purchasing, I've played a wide variety of 2 channel stereo music through these speakers and the clarity is excellent. There is good balance between drivers and absolutely no distortion that I can detect. They have taken all the power that my Pioneer 7.1 channel receiver can muster without a whimper. Multi-channel movie sound tracks are also just as wonderful. Using Premier Acoustic speakers to reproduce music videos recorded in multi-channel DTS format, can only be described as superior to anything I have previously experienced. If there is anything negative to say about these at all, it would be in the ability to reproduce very deep bass. I have gotten used to having very large woofers in my main speakers. The PA-8F's two 8 inch woofers are great but just can't compete with 15 or 17 inch woofers. I would recommend the purchase of the PA-12W subwoofer. Once I set my receiver to crossover signal below 80hZ to the sub and set the sub level to match the mains, it was perfect! I'll have to say that I now have the best sounding home theater system in my neighborhood, thanks to my Premier Acoustic speakers. Thank you Premier Acoustic for a superior product at a great price.

Aperion INTIMUS 6T - Speaker - 2-way - high-gloss black
Average Reviews:

The Aperion tower speakers sound great when used as part of a surround sound system.

The Aperion tower speakers do not do so well as stereo speakers. They do not have a full sound and they are muddy when playing complex muscial passages. They sound OK when there is a piano or accoustic guitar, but are not good with reproducing the sound of a whole band playing.

I think the problem is that do not have a midrange driver.

The Aperion center speaker has all the same drivers as the tower speaker, plus a midrange driver. It has a much fuller sound. It is a clean, crisp sound and you can distinguish all of the instruments.Of course, since the center speaker is not a tower it does not have the full bass sound. It is because of the center speaker that the Aperion surround sound system sounds so good.

Forget all other audio companies. Sony will always have the highest quality products for the best prices. 3 foot high towers for $50 each??? They must be pretty mediocre right? Wrong. These speakers are wonderful.

They have a full, bright sound and can get as loud as you possibly want (and louder) if you have a decent receiver. There is a great distinction between the tweeter, mid and sub. These are the best speakers I have ever owned.

The only thing wrong with them is if you love extreme, rumbling bass, they might not meet your standards. But a good active sub woofer is a must for any good sound system anyway.

Klipsch La Scala II Three-Way Horn-Loaded Loudspeaker, Subwoofer, and 2-Inch Composite Cone (Single, Walnut) Review

Klipsch La Scala II Three-Way Horn-Loaded Loudspeaker, Subwoofer, and 2 inch Composite Cone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned a pair of La Scalas for over 30 years, and they are still going strong with no loss of sound quality. This is the only pair of speakers you will want or need in your lifetime.

Amplifiers

McIntosh stack
Yamaha 2020 (30 years old and still outstanding)
Pioneer Elite top of the line 5.1 receiver
New 7.1 Elite I will be hooking up over 2009 Christmas break

Sources

Originally I used Tandberg and Nakamichi tape decks, Revox B77 reel to reel and a Thorens TD MKII top of the line turn table.

With the advent of digitally recorded, digitally remastered CDs and universally good CD-DVD players I have moved exclusively to CDs and Radio for source.

Pros

* Incredibly efficient, minimizing or eliminating amplifier distortion.
* Inaudible distortion at any volume up to and including ears bleeding.
* Unsurpassed tonal quality which is most evident on digitally recorded classical music. A good quality Phillips digitally mastered recording will move you to tears. Every instrument and every note is clear, precise, accurate and easily discernible.
* No need for a sub-woofer with the 15 inch woofers which accurately reproduce the instruments instead of a dull undefined thumping noise.
* Punch, with the right amp and music the punch these can deliver with crisp accuracy is astounding.
* Easy on the ears, with no distortion and accurate reproduction of the source, you can listen to these speakers all day with no ear fatigue.

Cons

* The only con (which isn't one for me) is size. You will need approximately 24 x 24 footprint space in two corners of the room to maximize the quality of the sound. The urge to place something on top of the speakers will in the end prove irresistible. When the speakers are delivered, measure them carefully and purchase two smoked glass tops (tempered if you are worried about the kids breaking the glass), have the glass company round and polish the edges of the glass and mount it with at least 6 felt pads, 2 in the center area, on the bottom that wont stick to the wood.

If you are standing these on a wooden or tile floor, I suggest that you purchase a good quality carpet to fit under them like a good plush door mat, for sound isolation.

If you are placing these down the basement, you can buy black cabinet dollies at you local music store that sells amplified guitars and band supplies. I like the dollies because you can move the speakers easily for cleaning, vacuuming or re-arranging, one person can't lift a speaker.

Do not place these directly on a basement floor which will wick moisture into the speakers and cause rot and rust. Be sure to use a de-humidifier allowing no more than 50% humidity, 40% is optimal. If you don't like the black dolly look, build some wooden platforms with 2 x 10s and 3/4 furniture plywood on the top, sand them and stain them dull flat black. Use screen bead or half round on the edges of the plywood for a more finished look.

If you don't have a high end miter saw, cut the front 2x10 for the full 24-26 inches across the front, have the sides run to the back and place a 22-24 inch piece on the back to hide the seams. A good lumber yard will make all of the cuts for you including using 4x4 plint blocks so you can place all of the screws on the inside.

Plan B, for a professional look, go to your local cabinet maker and pay them a couple of hundred dollars to make the stands for you including staining them black.

* Buying a used pair of La Scalas typically means finding a pair that has outlived their first owner, no one sells these while the can still breath. When you can find a used pair, they are typically 20-30 years old and still in excellent working condition.

Stereo and 5.1 or 7.1 Surround sound

After a lengthy discussion with a Klipsch factory consultant, if you want to use the La Scalas as part of a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker configuration, this is what you will need:

* 2 La Scalas in front $6000
* 2 or 4 Klipsch Heresys for the rear and side $1500 to $3000
* 1 Klipsch Heresy for the center speaker $750

Klipsch Heresy III Three-Way Horn-Loaded Loudspeaker with 12-Inch Subwoofer (Walnut)

Use this set up for a few months, then decide if you really need or want a sub woofer. It will be hard to find a sub woofer with the quality or detail of the La Scalas. This is a better speaker system than you will find in any theater.

Note: Used Heresys I, II, III can be found since a lot more of them were sold than the La Scalas and Corner Horns. As always, buyer beware that the guts of the speakers are in fact Klipsch original parts not cheapo after market replacements for blown speakers.

Your flat panel TVs will come and go, your Klipsch Speakers will be around long after you have left the building.

Polk Audio LSi15 Left Channel Tower Speaker (Single, Ebony) Review

Polk Audio LSi15 Left Channel Tower Speaker
Average Reviews:

Polk's LSi series is its flagship speaker system. Being 4 ohm, it behooves one to ensure that the speakers are driven by a powerful receiver or consider separates (amp and Pre/Pro).

The LSi15 shares the same acoustical qualities as that of its companion speakers: smooth (if understated) and defined. The Ring Radiator tweeter is the centerpiece for these speakers, which utilize internal crossovers to ensure the best possible sound reproduction.

The LSi series is a very attractive piano gloss black and its connectors and cabinet are rock solid.I highly recommend help in transporting and setting up these extremely heavy speakers.

The sound? That's a very personal matter.Anyone considering a significant purchase like this should take the time to listen to the speakers for themselves.I am very happy with mine.

I have owned Heresy's since 1975, in 1985 I bought the Heresy II's and this year I bought the Heresy III's, they just keep getting better, they have a full presence and spatial displacement like nothing else in their price class.I got 20 years out of my last pair, this pair, probably the same, the handcrafted quality is apparent, the sound, even at low volumes is incredibly clear.

I kid you not folks, I am a Klipshophile, and for my "man cave" there are always a pair of Heresy's, the is no better crafted or sounding speaker for the money (albeit a lot) and few speakers at any price that can stand next to these wonderful speakers. As an aside, I always go with the Oiled Walnut.

Product Description:
Klipsch Heritage Series Speakers are priced individually but sold only as matched pairs. Avoid delays by ordering in groups of two. First introduced in 1957, the Heresy, a three-way design, started out as a compact center channel speaker to accompany the Klipschorn(R) in three-speaker stereo arrays. In 1985, Klipsch made some changes and improvements to this model and re-released it as the Heresy II. Today, Klipsch has given the new Heresy III a bi-wire network, titanium diaphragm tweeter and larger magnet assembly. The midrange has moved from a phenolic to a titanium diaphragm. All of these changes result in improved tonal balance and increased output. In fact the Heresy III is two decibels louder (96 to 98dB), improving on its already high sensitivity. In addition to delivering smooth, dynamic and low distortion sound, the Heresy III is available in a high-quality cherry, walnut or black ash wood veneer finish. It also ships with a slant riser that can be removed for cabinet installations. Because of its relatively compact size, this model offers the greatest degree of placement flexibility in the Heritage Series line.

Product Description:
The Yamaha NS-225F 2-Way Bass-Reflex Tower Speaker is a sleek, attractive addition to your home theater entourage. The slim profile matches flat-panel and plasma TV design sensibilities. As a pair (speakers are sold individually) these tall, slim audio powerhouses are the perfect front line addition to your stylish, contemporary surround sound home theater system. With Yamaha sound you'll feel the buffalo stampede through your living and hear TIE fighters scream by, all from the comfort of your couch.

These slim profile speakers are sold individually. View larger.
Perfect front speakers for your surround system. View larger.
Dual woofers and a single tweeter. View larger. High-quality Yamaha Sound
A good set of home theater speakers must combine high-power capabilities with excellent sensitivity and dynamic range, but you don't want a loud system that leaves you fatigued with ringing ears. The NS-225F meets your high audio standards by using dual 3.12-inch PMD (polymer-injected mica diaphragm) cone woofers. The diaphragm is composed of 30 percent high-quality Indian Pearl Mica. Yamaha chose this substance because it makes a significant contribution to the sound quality. In order to maximize its distinctive qualities, absolutely no coloring is added to the material. In addition, the NS-225F features a varied cone thickness (it is thinner on the outer edge of the cone), which has been shown to improve sound performance, and Kapton bobbins to help increase signal-to-noise ratio. The cones are extremely light, yet also tough and durable with an excellent response speed. And with 120 watts max input power, the speaker is built to fill a good-sized room with crystal clear audio.
Built for Sound, Built for Style
The high-performance 1.12-inch tweeter in the NS-225F features an aluminum-magnesium alloy dome with a DC-Diaphragm (integrated diaphragm and voice coil). The tweeter is super-light to minimize loss, yet it is remarkably durable. It is capable of sound reproduction all the way up to 50 kHz, which is an outstanding range for a three-centimeter dome tweeter. The speaker shape is designed to reduce diffraction and standing waves to bring you a clear, true sound. Audio quality aside, Yamaha didn't scrimp on style either. The NS-225F features a precision-constructed, floor-standing wood cabinet with a luxurious silver finish that is an ideal match for your high-end flat-screen or plasma television.
The Fine Details
Sometimes it is the little details that make all the difference. The NS-225F bass-reflex tower speaker uses two ports rather than the standard single port. They are precisely tuned to archive the best low-frequency response and a higher attack speed. The Bass Anchor uses heavy-duty, round-shaped steel plates to provide stable support, and also to dampen unwanted vibrations that can adversely effect sound quality. Even the terminals of these speakers are top-of-the-line, they're made of brass and gold-plating for the highest signal conductivity. Yamaha has put forth the extra effort in developing a speaker whose design and materials go the distance to deliver the finest audio for your home theater adventures.
What's in the Box
One NS-225F 2-Way Bass-Reflex Tower Speaker, two steel base anchors, 4-meter speaker cable, and user's manual.

Klipsch Reference Series RF-52 - Left / right channel speaker - 100 Watt - 2-way - black (each) Review

Klipsch Reference Series RF-52 - Left / right channel speaker - 100 Watt - 2-way - black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This speakers are nothing short of amazing, for the price they offer tremendous clarity and rock-solid bass. If you're looking for affordable hi-fi towers then look no more, this can rival much more expensive speakers and are a breeze to drive. Being extremely "sensitive" (96dB @ 2.83V / 1m) they can produce large amounts of sound with a relatively low amount of power (ideal if you wish to pair them with "true hi-fi" amps that are expensive when they break the 60 watt mark).

As for the sound goes, these speakers have sparkling highs that are effortlessly spread across the listening area thanks to the horn-loaded titanium dome tweeters. Midrange is vibrant, very present and smooth. Bass is accurate, fast and even earth-shattering. Stereo Imaging is very, very good, for the price is just marvelous; it's not pin-point accurate when compared to much more expensive speakers but for the price is fantastic. They have the ability to perform bass-intensive music with ease and are capable of resolving sonically stressing musical passages with not much effort. Expect these to suit almost every musical needs; from bass-crazy electronic music, to smooth, classical nuances and heavy metal, they will perform superbly.

The cons: even though this isn't exactly the speaker's fault, the horn-loaded tweeters can expose any roughness in the recording, some music suffering from the "loudness war" or that is poorly recorded might sound odd with these floorstanders. Also, their rear-firing port can be tad painful, since it needs at least 25-30 cms (9-11inches) to function perfectly. Owned these for almost a year now and those are the only complaints I have for now.

Amp recommendations: These speakers are really nice, Klipsch made a terrific job here, so please don't go cheap on the amplification. If you wish to go for "big" brands like Maratanz, Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha go ahead, they'll work, but I seriously recommend you look in the grounds of NAD, Rotel, Arcaim, etc. as they WILL sound much, much better. Since they can produce huge amounts of sound with relatively low wattage, true hi-fi amps (which usually don't roam the 100+ watts area, however, anywhere from 40 to 100 watts will do here) are a better way to go. I have a 40watt per channel NAD C315BEE and the whole setup sounds plain awesome, if you wish to go higher and can afford it, do it, the sound will usually increase a bit.

Overall, these speakers are fantastic for the price, as far as sub $600 floorstanders go this are amongst the best. If you wish great sound, earthshattering bass, 'crisp' highs, and lovely vocals then look no more, buy em' you wont regret em'.

Klipsch Reference Series RF62BK Floor Standing Loudspeakers (EACH) Review

I purchased a pair of these speakers from a local shop as part of an overall upgrade of my home audio system. They replaced a pair of Bose 501's, and are paired up with a Harman Kardon 3390 (an Amazon bargain rated at 80 watts per channel) which replaced an older 90 watt per channel Yamaha receiver.

Everyone likes something a little different in their speakers, so anyone considering a major purchase like this would do well to audition them.I usually have a bias towards a clear high end, even if it comes at the expense of bass.I generally view bass-heavy speakers as being made for youngsters, and I'm certainly not one at age 58.However, these speakers have a very pronounced lower end, and I really like them. It's a very clear and smooth sounding bass, and the high end is much the same - clear and well defined.I didn't expect to find both features in one speaker, nor did I expect to be so impressed with the quality of the sound. These speakers produce sound that is big but also complete, well rounded and pleasing to the ear. They were the clear stars of the show when compared to the other speakers at the store.I should disclose that the comparisons were made with a 90 watt per channel receiver which would tend to favor more efficient speakers like this.A power source of 120 watts or more may have produced a different winner among the speakers.Or maybe not - these things are tough to beat.

A couple things for the potential buyer to be aware of:1.These speakers are quite large and will easily dominate a small room both physically and acoustically.2.They are highly efficient, requiring very little power to produce a lot of sound. At higher volumes, they will part your hair, but they still sound great at low volume.3.Although the bass end is fully developed, they are still what many would call "bright" because of the clear and strong high end (most likely due to the horn tweeters), so they should be paired with a receiver that is not especially bright in order to avoid creating a harsh sound.A lot of the Yamaha products would fall into the "bright" category, so HK or Marantz might be a better choice in this application.

One other consideration that may or may not be important to everyone (it was to me) - they are made in the USA.

MB Quart Alexxa S-One 3-Way 180W Floorstanding Speaker, Piano Black Review

MB Quart Alexxa S-One 3-Way 180W Floorstanding Speaker, Piano Black

I purchased the Piano black that is just a beautiful constructed glossy box. Stay around the $700.00 range "each" when purchasing these speakers. The suggested retail around $1200.00 is only lining the middle mans pocket. I purchased these "direct" from the manufacture at 50% off retail. I would also suggest contacting the manufacture confirming the retailer is a certified dealer to cover warranty, and yes Amazon is a qualified retailer. The customer support at MB Quart was excellent! They actually sent me the wrong color (sent white), and they immediately sent the correct speakers with a return ups pick-up that did not cost me anything. I enjoyed talking with customer support at MB Quart, very pleased with their service. Set-up: I would pick up a long handled screwdriver that has some mussel, screwing in the four feet took some effort! Long screws that I rubbed on a bar of soap for some lubrication made it easier. I love the adjustable spikes placing there speakers. I used the flashlight trick sitting in the sweet spot to adjust the leveling spikes. I used some magnet backed mirror sheets I cut out 2"x"2, removed cloth grill and stuck mirror on tweeter grill. Sitting in the sweet spot I used a laser light (flashlight trick) until the light returned and hit me between the eyes. I ended up tilting them back using the adjusting spikes. I planned on bi-wiring these but became confused. The spec's state; Bi-wire = Yes? But there was "no jumper" between the upper and lower terminals. I e-mailed MB Quart questioning this and the return e-mail stated; This is only for connection flexibility if you wanted to use banana's (lower terminals). The customer service person actually pulled off the back plate in the warehouse to make sure. Yes, these ARE NOT bi-wire capable. The only reason for the lower terminals is to use banana terminations. The spec's on this are somewhat misleading, and I don't know if this has been updated in their literature? The more I researched bi-wiring there are several audiophiles who say it's a waste of time and money. Keep this in mind if you want to bi-wire. Sound; I was very disappointed with bass response! They seemed very Bright with little bass impact. With spec's rating the bass response down to 33hz I was very disappointed thinking I would need a sub to compliment them. Then I thought, let's wait. It is common practice components, interconnects, speaker wire all need a burn in time. The average burn in time is usually around 100 to 200 hours, so I thought I would wait. I waited and waited playing music each day for months! Then, all the sudden! Bass! I am not joking! These woofers must be stiff with not much movement right out of the box. It took around 4-5 months to loosen up the drivers and the bass actually started sounding pretty darn good. So, be patient with the burn in on these drivers. I do feel now the bass does actually go down to the rated 33hz, but I would recommend a sub if you're a bass head like I am, Haha. The high end has always sounded great! Very detailed.
In conclusion: I have been playing these speakers now for almost a year playing music/movies almost daily. I have had NO problems what so ever and they actually seem to be getting better with age.;)

Yamaha NS-777 3-Way Bass Reflex Tower Speaker Review

Yamaha NS-777 3-Way Bass Reflex Tower Speaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm no audiophile, but I know good speakers when I hear them. These play all ranges of music and movies very well. There is not as much low-end bass as I would expect from 2 8" drivers unless I add it from the receiver (Sony STR-DA1000ES). My receiver only pushes 100 watts/channel, which I was worried would not be enough... I was wrong. Eric Clapton and the Eagles never sounded so good! If you're looking for high quality sound with tight bass notes and crisp highs, these are your speakers. If you're looking for a booming sound for Rap or Action movies, I would suggest complementing these with a subwoofer.

Lastly, the "piano" black finish on the outside of these speakers is spectacular. Everyone thinks they are way more expensive than they are because of the finish and size. Just be careful when taking them out of the box so as not scratch the finish.

JBL Venue Series Stadium 8-Inch 3-Way Speaker Review

JBL Venue Series Stadium 8 inch 3-Way Speaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
While JBL's speaker performance hasn't been quite as awe inspiring as the products from companies like paradigm and definitive technology, they have still produced quality speakers to those that don't desire to empty their lifesavings on recreational music listening and movie watching.

Personally, I am very picky and spend several weeks reading reviews, company websites, and magazine articles before deciding on what to buy. But when I lucked out by getting the opportunity to purchase these speakers for wholesale, I couldn't resist. I was worried about not seeing reviews for the speakers on any website except JBL's own site, but I took the leap of faith none-the-less. In the end I am very pleased with my purchase.

There are a few key points that should be noted with these speakers. Bass is generally not much of a concern to someone with a dedicated sub, but for those that don't have the option of causing their own 5.0 quake, the bass presence is satisfying enough with only the extreme lows being missed. Mid-range sound is fully present and adds substantial depth to the soundstage. The treble is nicely reproduced with these speakers. Almost no directionality is heard providing a clean crisp listening experience no matter where you are located in the room.

The bad sides to these speakers are few and far between, but still present. Personally I would have liked to have seen biwiring capabilities, but that is just me being picky seeing as how the speakers still reproduce sound very well. Next, I must say that the silver grills look really nice but good luck trying to match it with anything else in the room that isn't black. The easiest way to rectify this little problem is to just take them off, the speakers look awesome without them anyway (Which is probably why every picture you see online has the grills off).

In all honesty these speakers sound a lot like the JBL Northridge Series E90's, and have a striking resemblance; the only difference being the silver colored accents. So for those of you that don't trust my review or want more opinions and knowledge on the speakers, I suggest to check out the reviews posted on the E90's. My opinion to those who are looking to get their feet wet into the bliss of owning a home theater, or those that want good quality floorstanding speakers, look no further.

Cadence F-17 Home Theater Front Surround Review

Cadence F-17 Home Theater Front Surround
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, let me say that the speakers are not necessarilly little. I would describe them physically as tall and thin (28" tall and 6" deep). The speakers were ordered quite honestly on a whim. I was surfing the net and decided to see what was cookin' at Cadence sound. I already own two of the home subwoofers this company manufactures (both are excellent).

I log-on to the site and begin to look at the products for home theatre the company offers - very, very nice. The company offers the consumer choices. I decide to read everything - reviews, specifications, parts used in manufacture and finally - The warranty (2 years). The price...it must be a misprint I think to myself - $79.00 a pair! Now, my curiousity is peaked. I mean c'mon how good can the speakers be...$79.00? Of course, I had to order a pair. I had to hear how they sounded. Order a pair I did and...

Simply stunning - seriously - they arrived at my door double-boxed. The company shipped these jewels to me free! Ok now I carefully open the boxes and inside each box is a smartly packed loudspeaker (Cadence gives you two different speaker grills so you can match your home's decor).

Honestly, I don't know if the speakers are two-ways or three ways. There are three drivers used in each cabinet 2 6.5" Kevlar woofers and a single soft dome tweeter. The face on the speakers is a beautiful piano gloss black. The cabinets are satin black. Each speaker weighs in at 6 lbs. The speakers are built very well. The only criticism I have is the binding posts - they're cheap. Still, the speakers scream quality.

The sound: Oh, I do suppose that is important. In a word - neutral. This is not a bad thing...in fact at $79.00 for the pair - this amazes me! Listening to Mozart, Bach, Haydn is a guilty pleasure. The speakers disappear in the room. Other music sounds good too. I have not watched a movie, but my experience tells me that if music is satisfying so will watching movies.

This is a case where I feel I got more than my money's worth. I am very happy with my purchase! I am seriously considering the purchase of the center channel speaker for this series. If you enjoy music, a real value in atretching your dollars, and like the feeling of "winning" when buying something - The F17 Speakers by Cadence should be at the top of your "Must Hear" list!
