I took a chance on the PA-10 on advise of the dealer. For 179.00 delivered it's
a great bargain. Tight, not boomy, well constructed and the volume and crossover is on the front. My only complaint is I have to keep turning it down for my wife.

I am using these behind a pair of Audioaccess AAS6 Speakers (2-Way In-Wall with 6.5-Inch Woofer and 1-Inch Titanium Tweeter) driven by an Onkyo TXSR308 receiver.

The Wood Technology SC-2 In-wall Sound Chambers seem to make the sound in the room where the speakers are slightly richer, and the sound in the room adjacent to the speakers a little more muffled. Not a complicated product.List price is about $50.00 - I paid about $20.00 - Seems overpriced for what they are.

Acoustech H-100 Cinema Series 500-Watt Front-Firing Subwoofer, High-Gloss Black Review

Acoustech H-100 Cinema Series 500-Watt Front-Firing Subwoofer, High-Gloss Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Having just purchased the H-100 after reading a few reviews on it, I am very satified with my purchase. Admittedly, it wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be however, this is a GREAT home theatre sub for the price.

Upon receiving it from UPS, I hooked it up into my existing system (powered by a Yamaha HTR-5550 receiver) and loaded in Master & Commander. When the action scenes hit, this sub literally shakes the walls of my apartment and you actually feel the "hits" of the cannonballs in the chest. Literally. For home theatre, this sub is very tight and punchy, with the lowest bass notes (I think that it's called "LFE") projecting out into the room with a lot of "hit".

For music, I think it is a little boomy, but if you using a good media player (I run a coaxial line out from my PC soundcard straight into the Yamaha receiver), you can use the equalizer in the media program to iron out some of the boom - after which, it sounds GREAT.

All in all, this is a great performing, aesthetically pleasing sub, that is great value for the dollar. IMO, it is well worth checking out @ this price point and to date, I am very happy with the purchase.

Product Description:
Listeners who want to treat themselves to the best in home theater sound need look no further than the Acoustech H-100 front-firing subwoofer, which reproduces powerful, room-filling bass. Featuring 150 watts of continuous power output (500 watts peak) and a 12-inch, front-firing, long-throw woofer, the H-100 makes movies sound explosive and gives music a deep, full-bodied appeal--all without causing unwanted boominess or distortion. The subwoofer delivers a wide frequency response of 24 to 200 Hz, along with a max acoustic output of 115 dB SPL (sound pressure level). It performs particularly well when teamed with Acoustech's other home theater speakers, which are customized to match the subwoofer's output.
A further bonus stems from the sub's striking rear-vented cabinet, which is outfitted with a high-gloss black finish (think piano surface) on the top and bottom. The finish adds extra flair to the sub's design, as does the copper color of the woofer (revealed when you remove the grille).
The H-100 measures 15 by 17 by 18.25 inches (W x H x D) and weighs approximately 42 pounds. It's also covered by a two-year warranty on parts and labor.

BIC PL-200 Acoustech Platinum Series Subwoofer Review

BIC PL-200 Acoustech Platinum Series Subwoofer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I posted this "mini review" on a well known forum, seems there are a lack of reviews on this product, so, hope this helps.

Well, I finally got my PL-200 today. I have been testing and calibrating for the last couple hours.

I did a comparison of the PL-200 versus my Axiom EP350 sub. PL-200 = $329.00 and my EP350 = $758.00

The results surprised me, but not so much really. I will just go ahead say this. The PL-200 kicked my EP350's arse!

Now, keep in mind, I have much more testing to do. I first adjusted both subs to 75db using my digital sound level meter. C weighted & set to slow. The first thing that caught my attention was while running my test tones starting at 80HZ down to 15hz for each sub independently, was my EP350 would not even register any decibels at 22hz. The PL-200 easily hit 76db @22hz. I knew then the Axiom sub was in trouble.

Then I went on and ran MCACC at full auto, tweaked my levels, then ran MCACC advanced mode keeping the speaker settings.

I first played a lot of favorite songs, from the deep bass of "Peg" from Steely Dan to Dream Theater to Queensryche to Metallica's Black CD. The PL-200 filled out my room (4500cuft) nicely, no boominess, no muddiness, just clean well rounded tight bass. Kick drums hit hard and in my face. I pretty much compared a lot of songs with and without the Axiom sub.

I have each sub in the far corners of the room right outside my Axiom M80 towers. I must say I'm lovin the PL-200 so far.

Unfortunately, I only have 1 Blue ray disc at this time and it was Twilight New Moon. Not the best movie for lows. But, I'll have to wait for some more movies from Netflix to test the PL-200 further.

But what I did hear (both subs running) was nothing short of amazing. I can't imagine how Dark Knight or Transformers will sound. Because some of the wolf fighting scenes in Twilight rocked the house, everything was shaking. I could "feel" and hear the walls rattle.

So to summarize the PL-200 with just a couple hours of use, I would say this:

If I had to do this over again, I would have just bought 2 PL-200's instead of the Axiom and saved some money. The PL-200 is an incredible value and when cranked up some, will produce test tones down to 20hz and 18hz nicely. The Axiom EP350 just can't do that, and it's more than twice the price. I'll try to report back here when I get some more bass intense movies, plus I need to tweak some more.

As a side note, I'm really thinking about replacing the PL-200 stock amp with the 500 watt Bash amp, just for fun. But believe me, the stock amp rocks! This is more than enough low end thunder that I will ever need. I just can't see investing $1200.00 plus for a high end sub. One of the reasons I went for the PL-200 to begin with was I wanted 2 subs and I can spend the money I saved, on the Velodyne SMS-1 Sub Eq. I should be ordering the SMS-1 in a couple weeks. This will round out my system for awhile.

Below is my gear if anyone is interested: Take care!

Athena S.5 Bookshelf Speaker- Single Unit

I needed new speakers for my home theater system, so after doing some online research,I decided to try the Athena's out.I ordered these satelites,a matching center channel, and a powered subwoofer from amazon for 50% off last month.Out of the box the speakers didn't impress me,they sounded "tinny" and "harsh".I thought about returning them, but decided to wait a little while. The manufacturer states that a "break in" period is required for these speakers to attain thier full potential, and they are right.I listened to these speakers again after they were broken in,and I am pleased with them.I would describe the sound quality as "very detailed",and rather "bright".I would recommend these speakers as long as a subwoofer is used with them.

Bic America VK-6LCR 6.5 inch 3-Way Kevlar Lacquer On-Wall LCR Speaker
Average Reviews:

I took a chance and bought these over Bics DV 62-clrs.The DV 62-clrs are very big 10" deep with out the lacquer finish. The VK-6LCR are a very nice looking speaker and are 6" deep with a black lacquer finish. There are obviously other differences in the speakers but if you are interested in Wall Mounting them the 4" difference is quite a lot.I think from purely a sound quality point of view the DV62s are hard to beat, however I haven't listen to both to confirm, but the DV62s have a lot of reviews to support them, where as these VK-6s don't.I got three VK-6LCRs for the front 3 of my 5.1 surround sound system, replacing the Energy Takes that were there before.

I was really concerned as there was virtually nothing on the internet on either the forums, professional reviews, or consumer reviews to help with the decision.I took a gambel and bought these basically because I wanted a black lacquer finish and the technical information given on Bics website. With the Energy Take center channel I felt that voices were hard to hear and music was a little tinny.I never liked stereo sound with the Energy speakers, now I'm finding I prefer stereo over the moc 5.1 sound coming from my Denon receiver when listening to music. I just finished watching the new Star Trek movie, in TrueHD, and wow these speakers deliver compared to the Energy Takes. To top it off I really am happy with the way they look on my wall in the living room.

This being the first review, I hope this may help someone else that is considering purchasing these.Shop around prices vary considerably from one day to the next. Another big reason I purchased these over the DV 62-clrs was the price point Amazon had these at when I purchased them, shipped they were only very close in price at the time.Since than prices have risen quite substantially. There are however other vendors which sell them for less, if you look around. I posted a couple pictures as well.enjoy

Average Reviews:

I bought these speakers based on reviews of BIC's excellent reviews of other models. This being their higher-end model I thought should be even better.Well, the speakers came with one that when I picked up out of the box I could hear something shifting. When I played them the speakers sounded terrible(obviously broken). The other one sounded adequate at best.I compared them to my Klipsch surround sat's which blew them away. Also, the Klipsch list and sale prices were much cheaper, although they are indoor only.I don't know if others benchmarch speakers are nonexistant or that poor but I also have Rega and Boston Acoustics which are both way better although they are towers and aren't a fair comparison.I guess what bothers me most is that these list for $450 and their fit and finish besides their sound only deserves a $50-$100 price.

Just bought these for a 7.1 surround. I am using them for the two front left, right main speakers.
Very satisfied with BIC speakers. Kevlar is a great material for cones especially if you run them hard.
I also bought a Denon 1910 receiver- great also. These speakers sound great for movies and just playing music for a decent price. The only thing was that they are quite large and cutting a hole in your ceiling that large leaves no room for mistake. They look great with the covers off, so I show them off to my friends.

Don't let the size of these speakers throw you, they pack a pretty good punch for their small size and are an ideal compliment to larger front [main] speakers in a four speaker setup.I use them as rear speakers in a 4 speaker A/V setup and they are not at all intimidated by my larger 12 inch woofer main speakers. They provide the necessary mid-higher end and throw some good bass too. They match perfectly with my all-onkyo system and do loud pretty well.I recommend them for anyone who would like a good quality well built but affordable speaker for rear or surround use. Fluance AV-SC Home Cinema Acoustic Center Channel Speaker

I've had this center speaker for about a year now and am very happy with it. I guess it comes with aging and possibly too much cranked Zeppelin in my youth...but I'm having a harder time picking out dialogue sometimes, and the crispness of this center speaker certainly helps.

As mentioned in the manual, I did notice a change after the "break-in period," where voices eventually became more normal sounding and not over-crisp and amplified.

I'd got online today to look into getting the matching bookshelf speakers too, but at this time Fluance is apparently slammed with orders, backordered and out of stock.

I think this attests to a reputation they're getting for quality speakers at reasonable prices.

Just to add a little balance to the other review, I don't think it's fair to give this sub a 3-star review when you consider the price it is available for.At the $699 fake "msrp" price of course it can't compete, but there isn't a better sub out there for under $300.

While it is similar to the BIC H-100, it is an upgrade as the amp is twice as powerful and the kevlar cone is more durable and provides better, tighter response. It is also a great-looking sub, the gloss black top/bottom caps provide a touch of class that puts it a step above the standard black-vinyl-wood-veneer look of other budget subs.

As the comments about "boominess" -- subwoofer placement is crucial and a lot of the "boom" of a given sub will come from its physical position in the room and how it relates to the room's acoustics.I found this sub to provide smooth, rich, and deep bass.Coming from budget subs and HTIB subs, you will be shocked at how much bass you were missing. This thing vibrates my entire house!

While I agree it is a little "soft" for music if you are the type who likes tight, punchy bass, I found the rich smooth sound filled in wonderfully for music and added a real sense of weight and presence. If you want "tight and punchy" don't get a sub with a massive 12" woofer. This thing is designed to put out huge output on a budget. But don't think that it can't work great with music.Coming from some budget 8-inch subs, the difference on music was astounding, it really fills the room and is so smooth that it will blend easily with your speakers (unlike the little flabby booming you get from an entry-level 8-incher).

So while this may be a "three star" sub in an absolute sense (obviously if you are willing to pay for it there are better subs out there!), there is no way it's not "five stars" for the price. It is an absolutely massive step up from the bargain-basement $100-200 subs out there, and there is nothing better for under $300.And it will dominate any garbage Polk or even an entry-level Velodyne you find at overinflated prices in Best Buy.

Even the other reviewer acknowledges that you you have to step up to the $500+ class to see any real, substantial improvement.

When you are the top in your price class, that's five stars!

I have used this for tv watching, blurays with uncompressed audio, ps3 games, and Flac files.

It is paired with a denon avr590, 2 cerwin-vega re30s, 2 sony ssf-6000s, and a celestion f35c.

As it took longer to arrive, I was running only a 5.0 system for about a week. The difference while running this sub is absolutely amazing.I actually had trouble level matching so that dialogue could be heard clearly without the bass blowing it away, on the other hand... my music gobbled up the bass and I needed to push it to create that "in the club" feeling.

As good as this sub sounds, not too tight and no where near muddy, I cant wait to hear how its matured at about the 200 hour break in point. I simply cannot imagine what I would gain by spending many times more on other subs as this one does everything I need it to and more.

Thanks bic america, for an amazing budget sub.
