Athena MS-STB Speaker Stands for Micra-6 Satellite Speakers, Silver (Pair) Review

Basically, if you get the Athena speakers, you're pretty much bound to getting these stands.I generally give any product four stars if it meets my expectations, five stars if its perfect or goes beyond my expectations. These speaker stands basically met my expectations. They can be tedious when installing, and the connection between the speaker and the stand is a bit wobbly, but realistically, once they're setup your good to go.The most irritating part was threading the wire though the barrel of the stand, but I used a higher quality (reads: thicker) wire than what was supplied, which probably had a lot to do with that.Overall, if you got the Athena's, this stand is your only commercially viable choice. However, if you're handy with tools and the like, and enjoy a little time in the shop, I would recommend building up your own set of stands.

Product Description:
Designed for listeners who value both high-end sound and a high-tech appearance, the Athena MS-STB speaker stands offer the ideal combination of form and function. Painted an attractive silver color, the stands fit Athena's Micra-6 satellite speakers, a pair of petite, modern-looking models that help create a three-dimensional soundstage in your living room. The stands contribute to this task by positioning your speakers at the ideal listening height, giving the audio added texture and depth. The stands are also remarkably durable thanks to their solid metal and aluminum construction, along with the firm black metal base that holds the speakers firmly in place (assembly is easy and takes just a few minutes). The MS-STB speaker stands are the perfect choice for people who want to enjoy the full splendor of surround sound but don't want to mount their satellites on the wall or ceiling.

RCA Home Theater Dolby ProLogic II - RT2390 Review

OK, if you are looking for something high end, high quality, and built with the audiophile involved... Then you probably aren't reading this review anyways since this is an RCA product.

RCA stuff is crap. Their tv's? Crap. Stereos? Crap. Small electronics? Crap.

But with that said... this littleunit isn't half bad KEEPING COST IN MIND. I purchased used for 50 bucks as i wanted to add a surround system to a rental property i an leasin gout in a few months; so essentially i just wanted the cheapest thing possible t hat actually worked. After reviewing a lot of (and i mean a lot) of units online and testing stuff out at the stores, I came to the conclusion that to get anything decent, I'd have to spend at least 180$.

Not so.

This unit is dated, doesn't offer all the bells and whistles, but does have more of a stereo receiver feel to it than the new theater systems issued by samsung, sony, panasonic, etc. It's heavy weight, has simple and easy to use display and controls... and allows you to use your own speaker wire so you don't have to worry about wire lenth and splicing.

One draw back: The speakers are 4 ohm, so don't try hooking up any other speakers to this head unit, nor should you try to hook these speakers up to another receiver! But I dont' plan on it anyways, I'll probably just be throwing this away when i'm done with it. I mean, it was 50 bucks...

Is this a party thumping sterio system? No. But does it do an effective job with surround and tv/movie watching? yes.

Another big plus is that there is an optional subwoofer output if yo wnat to hook up a powered sub with the unit (not a bad idea if you have an extra lieing around).

So sound quality: 2 star
build quality: 3 star
Value? 5 star

I purchased this product because I have a small apartment, space is an issue, and I did not want to install the typical 5 speakers in most home theater-in-a-box systems.I hooked it up to an inexpensive, no-name 32" LCD flat-screen HDTV and the system isn't bad and takes up very little space. It only has 100 watt outage power, but the sound is pretty good.It is basically a progressive scan DVD/CD player with a speaker system.Although the speakers are wall-mountable, I did not mount them.So far so good and I am happy with the purchase. The system fit my needs perfectly.

This set actually impressed me with its weight. The package is unexpectedly heavy, due to the stand bases. They make for a very sturdy speaker stand, with rubber feet and carpet spikes included, depending on your floor type.Easy to set up and relatively stylish.Recommended.

RCA RT151 Home Theater System Review

I live in a one bedroom apartment and this system is as powerful as I'll ever need. I gambled on it because of the price, figuring it would probably suck, but hoping it would at least be a little better than my TV sound. I was wrong. It doesn't suck at all. It's actually pretty awesome. In fact it sounds almost as good as my ex-roommate's surround system which cost a couple hundred dollars more.

I was a little worried when I opened the box and saw how tiny all the speakers were, but they produce very big sound for their size. Anyone who wants thundering bass that will rattle the walls should definitely look elsewhere but if you are living in an apartment, this unit should be more than sufficient for your needs. It sounds absolutely great for what it is - a budget priced surround system.

I don't understand the people who have mentioned needing to augment these speakers with their TV sound. I think that they must have the speakers hooked up wrong or have the individual channels (front, center, sub-woofer and rear) turned down, so the master volume isn't giving them what they need. I can only turn the volume up about half-way before I start to worry about my neighbors, so I'm clearly getting something different out of my set-up. I don't think I'm just being overly courteous either - at full volume, with the doors closed, the system can be heard fairly easily from the courtyard/hallway outside of my apartment. With the standard settings, the rear channel is a little quiet for my taste, but since there is individual control for the different channels, it is very easy to adjust.

The biggest problem with the system is that there are only two composite inputs and one front facing "line-in" portable audio input. That means no HDMI, component or IR inputs and if you want to hook up more than two devices, you're going to need a separate switcher. The higher end inputs are not a big deal for me. I have already stated that I live in an apartment and must be courteous with my volume. HDMI, component, or IR would allow for much better fidelity with a system that really cranks, but with my personal needs in mind, the two composite inputs are just fine. Besides, how much do you expect for $56?

In summary; This system is amazing for the price. Perfect for apartments, dens, etc. There are some limitations and it may not be the right system for you if you are living in a big house, but it definitely exceeded what I expected to get from it.

+ Price. Can't be beat.
+ Compact size - perfect for an apartment
+ Good sound and pretty loud for such a compact system - again, perfect for small to mid-sized apartments.
+ Remote with individual channel controls. This is very handy and not available in the other units I saw in this price range.
+ Audio device port is a nice bonus

- Bass is less than thunderous
- Limited inputs
- Probably not appropriate for large rooms in large houses
